The story takes 2,500 words to say it, but the short version is simple:
The new GT is clearly a focused car with a mission. It's meant to win races as a race car and stay as true to that as possible as a road car. I hate the term "race car for the street" because it's been overused and now it's a cliche, but that's really the best description for this machine. One way this manifests (that I didn't have space to describe in the story) is the suspension and rear wing activity. We all know they happen quickly, but when you're driving the car it's not just the speed the but the almost harsh manner in which they operate. That's not a knock at all. There's a sense of: GT Speaking: "We're a race car and we don't have time to f@*k around here. The wing needs to go down NOW for high speed." BAM. GT Speaking: "Okay now the suspension needs to go down for serious cornering." BAM.

I LOVE that Ford's engineers didn't tune those features to coddle the driver and passenger. GT Speaking: "You don't like the sound of a race car doing what it needs to do without wasting time? Go buy a Lexus."

Also, the power deliver is AWESOME. Ford's ability to keep the turbos spooled gives that "little" V6 the kind of torque I felt in my 1970 Plymouth GTX (with a 440). I grew up on American muscle cars, which makes me very impatient with cars you have to wait for when you hit the throttle and request forward thrust. The new GT DOES NOT have that issue. It moves RIGHT NOW when you hit the throttle, which I love.

The other big point is the suspension, which works as well in reality as we all know it's designed to work in theory. The car is shockingly comfortable in Wet, Normal and Sport mode, and it gets real low and stiff in Track and V-Max mode. This means the spectrum of uses for the car (cross-country cruising or track-day ripping) is very wide.

It's going to make a lot of people very happy.
