Here is my stained concrete pictures

Its three years old and really dirty. But looks great kinda of like stained wood and is easy to clean and keep nice. The garage is a 4 car door double deep so it holds 8 with room to work and move around.

Sam,
When I built my shop 3 years ago, I really struggled with the best (ample) lighting. After research, I settled on metal-halide fixtures, and spent about $2K on six fixtures. Bottomline: I was never really happy.
.

I did the same thing in my garage....awesome lights. I used 2 big industrial sized ones over head and a row of Halogens on each side wall about 4 feet apart from each other. I've got plenty of light now.

I also did radiant heat in the floor which is awesome....but I guess that won't matter since you're in SoCal. Internet is a good idea for sure especially if you work on your cars....there's alot of info you can access quickly if you need advice, specs or if you need to order parts.

you can't really overbuild in my opinion especially if you have a sickness like most of us. never too many outlets....and think about where the compressor might live and the type as you'll probably need 220 or 240 there.

like said before...if you go with 6" reinforced concrete you'll be covered for pretty much any lift...as most require at least 4"

are you using trusses to support the ceiling? its nice not having any posts or columns in the way!

good luck....its alot to think about but its awesome when you finally get it done. I just finished mine last spring and now I'm in California and can't use it. :frown

I'm late to this party but this post is truly inspirational. I am putting my house on the market tomorrow. I need a garage like this. Life is too short not to have this! :biggrin:banana

Avoid concrete paint as it's prone to peel. Stain is the best choice.

I had my brand new floor (at the time) painted, and it peeled. I had it redone under builder warranty, and it peeled again.

Then, again under warranty, I had them do it with the paint flake chips in various colors, and that has been fine for the last couple years.

Premier Garage.

Gentlemen,

Go to premiergarage.com. This is a nationwide company and their products are absolutely the best. I've had this flooring in my garage as have many other Ford GT Forum members for many years now and it is bulletproof. This is the flooring that FlorIdaho Chris has in his garage as well. My old CJ-5 Jeep and my Cobra has spilled every type of fluid imaginable on this garage floor coating and nothing hurts it. Everything, no matter how long it's been sitting there, wipes up with a rag leaving not a trace. This garage floor coating must be laid down on bare concrete so if you already have another type of floor coating it must be removed first. This was the biggest part of the job in my garage. A base coat is laid down in the color of your choice and before it's completely dry the floor is completely covered with a layer of multi-colored chips, also the colors of your choice. When this is all dry the excess chips are swept up and the surface is then clear coated with some nuclear blast proof layer of what ever. The resulting garage floor surface is stunningly beautiful, unbelievably durable, never slick as it has a texture to it, but absolutely nothing soaks into it and everything wipes right up. They can also install garage cabinets that mount to your walls and leave an 8 inch space at the bottom so that you can hose off the floor under your cabinets or sweep underneath them. It's all great stuff. This is far from the least expensive company you could deal with but their products carry a long warranty and everything they supply is top notch. Check out their website. All the best.

Chip

I too have used Premier Floors in my Garage with cabinets and love them. Now I am working on a 2650 sq. ft. building for my office and storage facility for play things and am trying to deside what type floor to use as it presently was painted with some type of paint and don't know what to use. I'll post pictures when finished. Officeing on my wifes kitchen table DIDN't WORK! Any Ideas? I'm afraid removal will be very expensive. Tomy
PS After paying IRS on Dealership sale I'm limping.

I used Premier flooring too, after reading some old posts here. Find a good installer in your area. If it is old concrete flooring in your garage you are covering, careful prep work is needed before applying the coating. I love it !

Expensive removal not recommended.

Tomy,

I can confirm that removal of a wife is VERY EXPENSIVE! I suggest you continue on with your plans to build a new office/garage as this is a much cheaper alternative.

I have acid stained in my two garages with a wax burned/buffed in over them. I really like the look. Probably a little harder to maintain than the premier coated floors.

SORRY FOR THE BAD PHOTOS. Was using a camera I am not used to....

I think Shelby maintains his own inventory (Probably floors incl.) and by the looks of the pictures he does a fine job :cheers But with the trailer I can always bring my shop with me wherever I go now :wink
