Check out in the floor lighting. I've seen airport runway lights used to good effect. Strong and weather proof and not expensive.

Also consider hot and cold water on the outside area where you or your detailer will be cleaning vehicles.

An old Chrondex (sp) Christmas Tree drag race starting light is a cool thing to play with from your recliner. Practice makes perfect.

Beyond all the treats mentioned above that are a must (even the striper pole), make sure the Air Compressor is outside the working area and air line outlets are accessible every 10'.

Second - even though you are going for 12' ceiling, when they install the doors go for tight to the ceiling configuration which allows the option of adding a four post later.

Just finished mine...here are a few tips. PM me if you want more detail.

• Bigger is better.
• 14 foot ceilings.
• More juice is good. I ran a whole new meter for my garage. 110, 220, 3 phase.
• 6 inch 4,000 psi concrete, rebar reinforced is the ticket.
(My RV is 38,000 lbs)
• Forget high priced epoxy floors. VCT black & white is the ticket.
• Use good lighting. Mirrored reflectors.
• Alarm. Smoke and flame detectors.
• Water + air
• 175 psi compressor.
• Waterless urinal. ( Yes, it’s true!)
• Phone.
• Cable or Satellite TV
• Lots and lots and lots of 110 receptacles.
• Consider drainage. Roof. Yard. Drains all Underground.
• Out door lighting.
• Shelving.
• Tool boxes.
• Storage.
• Brass pole!!

Building mine now! My house (once completed in about another 45 days) will have a 6 car garage with scored and acid stained floors, t111 walls, plenty of recessed lighting, built-in cabinets/sink, heated and cooled, plasma tv, surround sound stereo, Spiral iron staircase leading to a 1000 square foot game room above. There will be a portico you drive under to get to the garages. Pics to come once completed! :thumbsup

I like the Gulf Color treatment... I am seriously thinking about era murals, antique garage memorabilia with Le Mans in mind.

Awesome garage!

We are in the planning phase now, as we have cold weather, we are most likely going radient in floor heat, with Geothermal as the heat source. Amazing that the ROI is something like 10 years! Also going to have AC, but that is not really to keep things cool, but to keep the humidity in control.

No, I actually bought it at Amelia Island at the Concours along with two old Gulf pumps (restored) which I am placing on an island in the driveway. I know where there is another Gulf sign which I am trying to free up. There is also an old glass top pump not too far from my house in an abandoned gas station. Need to find the owner. I have another 1,000 ft "garage/bar/workshop" next to this garage - mostly bikes and race cars worked on.

By the way check out - http://www.garagejournal.com/ lots of good ideas.

Good luck...

Lighting

I used Light Corporation out of Grand Haven, MI. for my lights. Excellent quality aluminium frames and reflectors. (I think they also do the Griot's Garage lights).

See: www.lightcorp.com

They will also draw a illumination plan for you, to eliminate all the dark spots. Look for 60+ foot candles everywhere if you can. Again, more is better!! Just like horse power! :biggrin

Gordo -
Code:
when is the party ? October I hope.
Rally, Roast & Romp. (Rally around Charleston, Oyster Roast & Blues Romp in the Swamp with local A+ blues musicians....) A whole weekend of it. In the planning right now - but it will be good. Stay tuned.

We did well at VIR - Mini won the whole race, Nick got down to 2:23's. Pretty good for a '66 Mini...I did okay in the Royale - those pesky Can-Am cars just got in the way!! :wink
