exhaust droning (again)

Although I have been given advice on a previous thread on how to deal with my unacceptable droning issue at around 2,000 rpm (most memorable ..."don't drive at 2,000 rpm"!) , I've decided that it may be time to convert back to a stock exhaust. This will tear my heart out as I am totally infatuated with the current Hennessey sound. We are currently limiting our outings to around an hr or so as the droning is just too severe....maybe I just have "one of those cars". Some of you have stated that with similar set-ups you do not find the droning to be an issue....I can tell you that with my unit it is VERY annoying. Staying consistently under 1800 rpm is a drag and constantly punching through the drone range is a neccessity with even moderately aggressive driving.
So, in the event I make a change, are there any members out there with a stock can available located close to Alberta ? Shelby has suggested that the Ford Racing unit may be a viable option as well , although a pricey one at that. Anyone care to chime in on thier experience with the Ford unit (as it relates to sound level and droning ? Anyone have one available ?

Have the Ford....Zero droning. It's mellow around town but wakes up when I put my foot down.

I have a stock can. And it's not on my car. And I'm OK with that. And I'm in Alberta. And I'll sell it to you if that's your heart's desire. Lemme know.

Have the Heffener Performance exhaust (no muffler)...it's a nice balance...loud enough and no drone. My Z06 is the king of drone with the factory NPP exhaust flaps open in 6th...and the GT doesn't drone at all. I may consider removing the cats altogether.

I have the Ford GTX Full length headers and mufflers. It does not drone at all. It is not loud unless you get on it, but it is not super quite either.

this is me leaving Shadowmans;

I have the ford racing muffler and cat del pipes, love the combo. No droning whatsoever. About 10% louder at cruise speed, huge difference at full throttle.

One more vote for the Ford Racing (Borla) muffler. A little louder than stock, smaller, lighter and no drone.

+1 on the FRE, I love the sound, when you step on it, sounds aggressive, I blip the throttle often just for the sound of it. Nice and quiet at 80mph cruise in 6th at just about 2,000rpm. My wife falls asleep with no problem, still sounds like music to me.

There are 3 Ford Racing Exhaust Systems. You guys should always clarify which one you're referring to:

(1) Ford Racing Performance Muffler M-5230-GT (Borla Muffler) - see picture 1

(2) Ford Racing Long Tube Header M-9430-GT (Borla) which can be used with either the above muffler, the OEM muffler, or most after market X-Pipes - see picture 2

(3) Ford Racing Rear Exit Headers M-9430-GTX (Borla) - see picture 3

I have the 1 and 2 combo and it sounds magnificent. So good that I bet 3rd option sounds even better!

The absolute best part of this combo is that it's tame when I need it to be but it literally throws flames when I want it to.

I have the #1 option Ralphie mentioned above on my car and if you are around Calgary send me a note and we can go for a rip to check out the sound. I think you will be much happier with the Borla than the factory can. :thumbsup

NPP's drone badly when you have the flaps open in 6th @ 1500-1800 RPM, which is why GM went that route (NPP). I had installed an RPM controlled system that allows me to have them open at the RPM of my choice, but they're quiet if you have them closed at the said RPM's above. In any case, I take what they say there with a grain of salt...and same goes for the VCA forums, even bigger idiots there. They banned me when I spoke out against them pissing all over the Corvettes.

I'm going back to stock with a straight pipe and cut-outs connecting it to the engine. Have all the pipes and cut-outs. Just need time to weld it all up. A long ride on the highway with any of the catback mods is hard on the ears....besides I like to hear the radio after an hour or so entertaining myself with the exhaust. I just don't know what the quality of the sound will be with the cut-outs open. They can be set at about any amount of open but with no muffling at all they could be a bit harsh.
