exhaust drone

I had them custom made by a customer (mfg. of floor mats and car covers) I printed brochures for. We tried 28oz 38oz and 48oz carpet material and the 38oz (no deadener) seemed to fit down in the groove the best as I recall. I have seen fancier (more bling) but none that are any cleaner or fit any better. I posted pics back in '06 .... I'll see if I can find them.

Thant would be great, Thank you.

Is your customer in the Northwest? I am a Spokane Native though I now live on the "liberal" side of the state.

OK, as usual my memory sucks. The fronts were 52oz and the rears were 38oz. There are some pics in this old thread and you will notice the mats pictured don't have anything embroidered. As many of you old timers will recall after market mfg'ers were very nervous about putting the "Ford Logo" on anything they made when the car first came out. Lots of stories of Ford protecting their brand. I later had another set made in flat black carpet with a simple GT, my build number #448 and the border stitched in with gloss black thread. IMO they look very tasteful. Their number is still posted in the thread and I believe still good, they should still have the pattern. Let me know if I can be of further help by calling the owner and running some interference.

No, they are in Southern Kalifornia.
Bring your GT home to the other side of the state, we'll swing by and pick up Floridaho Chris as well as a few others and head up north and run some of those Canadian back roads this summer!

Hmm, I must not be as senstive because I have an AccuFab x-pipe and don't notice any drone....

F-I Chris "was" going to have a GT B'que. In 2010. Pick out some dates for a drive into the Northland. The Calgary guys will want to meet up mid-point.

That sounds like a lot of Fun. I'll Toss out some prospective dates since I know the Inland Empire has an Indian summer every year and they are spectacular. September anyone? Won't interfere with anyone going to Salt lake in August.

Sounds like a great time. For you guys coming from the coast I have indoor parking and guest rooms for 3 to 4 couples. Chris and I also discussed if we met before the rally, an option of having the GT guys show up for some service?

I open for most any date.

Don't forget about us Edmonton guys too. We'll be wanting in on some of this driving action, so long as it's not long into BC with their new 7 day impounding for 40kph (25 mph) over the limit.......

Same here.

Go back to stock exhaust

It's perfect mix of deep rumble at start, Zero drone, and nice takeoff sound under speed

With windows up the stock is like being in private jet .... No one will complain

With windows down its enough to be noticed

Two of my GT's have bumper deletes, they both have different exhausts, and both drone, or sound much different. My Heritage has the Ford Racing/Borla exhaust with shortened tips and my yellow car has Jason Heffner's shortened H-pipe. Both have stock cats and headers. The Heffner is MUCH better than the Heritage, and I find it perfectly fine for my cruise speeds. I am very picky about drone. I literally have thrown away brand new Porsche systems hours after installation due their droning. If you have your stock cats and headers, you may want to try out the Heffner. It looks great and sounds great.

I remember seeing a carbon fiber cup holder for the Ford GT. It bolted to the center console area by your knee. I'll see if I can find it again...

Yup, sure enough, Stormcat sells them.

I know it is off the muffler topic, but on the secondary topic of getting together in North Idaho some time this summer, it sounds like a good idea to me. Someone start another thread (Jeff? Steve?) if you are so inclined and we can try and put something together.

my yellow car has a little drone to it also... usually around 40 mph if I cruise there long enough I get a headache... or run out of fuel. :cheers

I would suggest as others to either go WOT and use earplugs or downshift to drop rpm below the drone range which bothers you...

My car has the Accufab XPipe with cats back, I don't notice any drone whatsoever and the sound is absolute music like i've never heard, and I love it!

What Cantwell said on the Heffner. I don't notice any drone that is bothersome with this system. I have stock cats and still have bumper, not that the bumper or no bumper probably matters with the exhaust. When I open the car up, I have had one person tell me it sounds like the "gates of hell" opened from behind the car. Not too loud in the car though.

Thanks again to all who weighed in the exhaust system droning issue....it is now apparent that I may just be more sensitive to the drone than most others. I have noticed , as the years race by, a diminished tolerance for the side exhaust note on my Cobra and I have clear memories of TOTAL appreciation of that music not so long ago:frown so I guess it's an issue of learning to accept it (may be a hard sell to my wife!) In the event that I decide to convert back to the stock setup :bored , has anyone had experience in modifying the oem can to suit the bumper delete scenario ? I have a lot of fabrication experience with header and exhaust construction on various projects so I can't see this being a big deal. Having said that, I do not have the stock can in my possession to inspect (pre-surgery) so I will have rely on the forum members to create a visual for me. Anyone?..................:tap:
