I find it Truley amazing how many Ford Dealers don't know current market on the GT's. I can understand them wanting Big money over sticker for there cars and if they can get it more power to them, But the local dealers here in kalifornia still want ridiculous money some where between $20K and $150K over MSRP and some of these cars are early recall cars with the lower MSRP. One dealer here has 3 of them and another has 5 with more coming. How do you get this Ignorant? This explains why Ford Motor Company has financial problems, There dealers don't even know market on there cars. I will gladly buy my GT out of state from some one who wants my Money. I think its Funny the dealers think these cars are like "Red Wine" and getting better with age, There going to wake up when production is over and on the downward spiral and be lucky to get invoice.

I don't know if it can be confirmed but I had heard from a friend that works at a dealership that they don't pay floorplan on the GT's.

If thats the case and its there to draw attention and traffic as a showpiece..it doesn't suprise me that some dealers are happy to let them sit as long as they want.

Been lurking for a few months .. first post on the forum … not a dealer … hope to be an owner someday. That all being said, I finally decided to post to bring the “other side” of the price equation forward.

For those that currently a GT (or are a dealership, again, I’m neither) these kind of prices are beneficial. I appreciate the site that I believe centerpunch runs that shows going prices. But if I was an owner, I would be upset about current prices.

The more dealers that sell the cars at MSRP or lower are lowering the value of every car sold regardless of its originally selling price. So if you currently own one, you should like the approach that the California dealers are taking here. Of course their idea of not having to compete nationally is optimistic at best.

Not trying to be controversial, I’m just saying that holding prices has plus sides as well. One that you want as soon as you get yours!

You might be right if they were actually selling at these inflated prices but the dealers GT's here are just sitting collecting dust. The cars aren't making the dealers any money sitting on their showroom floors, their costing them Prime+ every month which on 5 GT's is $750,000 times Prime+ every month. I would want them burning gas and coming back for Service work.

I stopped at a local ford dealership few days ago to look at the new 06 model white/stripes. MSRP was of $168k with all options and they were asking 100k over MSRP. They had a yellow/no stripe in 05 and said they sold it for $240k. Wheteher you believe them or not it's up to you, I for sure don't.

I was in contact last week with a dealership in GA that has sold over a dozen GT's. They said they buy GT's from [idiot dealers] that sat on them and move them.

West coast dealers = in their own world. Good thing shipping from the midwest and east coast is cheap in comparison to their prices...

100% true. Mall of Georgia internet sales or whatever bids on virtually every well-priced ebay GT it seems.

The west coast is always on planet X for car prices. You're talking about a state where dealers have asked and been paid ~100k for a C6 Z06 that can be had by anyone with even a modicum of common sense at MSRP.

I think a GT at MSRP is a fair price and if I were looking to get (another) one that'd be my price point.
Yes, I know there have been a few truly new cars sold a little below MSRP but I don't believe that will be common.

When all of these cars are in buyers' hands, it will be more difficult to find one at that price. I think that many owners (like myself) will be keeping it long term as it is a unique vehicle.

Trying to find the bottom of the market short term can be tricky... like trying to find the bottom of the stock market.

For you potential buyers, don't sit on your hands too long.

I looked at a white/blue GT in Fresno a week ago. This idiot dealer wants 295k for his car. I can buy the same basic car 40 miles away for 175k. These guys don't realize that only 35% of these cars have sold so far and that prices are continuing to drop.

Look at what Chase is saying. On a 2 year lease with 5k miles a year and 50k pre-pay, they are saying these cars will be worth ledd then 45% at the end of the lease. You can look at that both ways. They don't want to be stuck with cars as they drop like stones. If stujpid ford had hedl the line on these cars at the orignally announced MSRP of $135k, the would have sold them all. I was just about too buy and decided to wait unitll summer. There will be at least 1,500 more cars to be sold by them. I love the car, but greedy, stupid Ford dealers (especially in here in CA), think they are dealing with a precious commoity. It's JUST A CAR ..I FOR ONE AM WAITING

I am methodical when it comes to buying exotics to say the least. I have never paid sticker for a new exotic, but jumped at the GT at sticker after driving it. Maybe I paid too much? Regardless, if I did the last three days of driving leads me to believe it was the best money I ever spent...

I think your on the Right Track, If your #'s are correct and there are 1500 cars to be sold by summer, count on Monster Discounts. Remember something else alot of people on this Forum paid Huge mark-ups over MSRP and Don't want the prices to drop because they have already lost a ton of money. I know my friend who paid $60K Over for his a few months ago is now kicking himself for not waiting, Who would have known.

When I was there last September, they had a price at least that high on the car. When I tried to deal with them for it, the manager wouldn't even come to speak with me, he told the salesman to tell me "the price is clearly marked on the window!"- wow....I purchased my car a week or two later for $130K less out of state.

Dealers in Los Angeles were almost as bad!

I agree. I am definitely going to wait it out and see what happens. My delema is selling my 68 Shelby GT500KR to pay for it. I had a local dealer let me demo his GT and I fell in love with it. I am curious to know what the investment potential will be for the GT. I know the Shelby will always be good as I have owned it for 18 years.

Keep the Shelby I have 2 GT500's and I'm not parting with them, My 67 has gone up $60K+ in the last 12 months. The GT will go down in value for a long while.

My Deal

I went into my dealer and they wanted something like 196k and, I offered sticker, my contact there said there was a 90 day floorplan, so I expected to hear from them in december, when the time was up (if the car was still there). Even after they said that they planned to "e-bay it" the phone rang not 2 weeks later, of my visit (this was in the Boston area). This all happened back in October. I too think that the market will be saturated in 2006 but, 4k cars is not a ton (total production), and the market will correct itself for cared for, good condtion cars, once production stops.

Keep the Shelby, not going to loose ANYTHING on that as time goes by.

DO NOT sell/trade your KR for a GT...wow.

The investment potential for a Ford GT = zero until ~2020

I ran into a guy on another board who wanted to trade his 1970 Boss 429 to a dealer straight up for a Ford GT :thumbsdow
