AZGT: please put me down for a set of those centercaps. I have a set of powdercoated flat black base wheels....and have been thinking about a custom centercap myself.

Regards,

Sanjay

Earlier post mentions the GT understeers with the stock setup?? I must have been driving a different GT on the track because mine oversteered ....I went with the REO 50's 275 front and 345 rears..NOW the car understeers...pushes the front..HRE 18 x 9 front , 19 x 13 rears..

KO,
What tire pressures are you running? Hot and cold starting pressures please.

HB, aside from the Bridgestones being "quieter and a better ride" are there any other pros and cons?

Thanks.

Terry

I ran a test drive at 26 psi all the way around. After the tires heated up, Steerability and rear slide control was amazing - especially with the whipple.

AZGT I love that look! I also like the look of the standard wheel much better than the Optional wheel. Just looks right with the GT.

The Corsa 265/40/18 and 345/35/19 I have on my car.
The 265 are not (yet?) in the Pirelli list ,but must be produced
for somebody.I got from my german tireshop.
Don´t know how they perform because of the winterweather here.

I can't find anyone in the US selling the 265/40/18, but the Pirelli site does list them.

Check out page 8 on the pdf file on this link

I haven't read all of the posts here, so forgive any duplication.

I replaced the standard tires with the Bridgestones RE 050A and RE 050A Scuderia.

Just for comparison

Stock: 235/45/ZR18 88 Y - wheel and tire 45.2 pounds - 26.33 diameter / 9.3 wide
Stock: 315/40/ZR19 103Y - wheel and tire 56.0 pounds - 28.92 diameter / 12.4 wide

Naturally the stock tires are missing some rubber, but I think I made up for the weight with nails.

New: 265/40/ZR18 101 Y - wheel and tire 52.4 pounds - 26.35 diameter / 10.4 wide
New: 345/35/ZR19 110 Y - wheel and tire 61.4 pounds - 28.51 diameter / 13.6 wide

Now for the wheels. Something I have been trying to do for a while. They are the stock wheels minus the crappy plastic center cap. Lug nuts are those from the optional BBS wheels. Center caps at the moment are cheap ones from an SUV wheel. I am having a screw in cap made with a custom FGT logo - machine guy has been been slow getting at it. I will have several sets of those made if anyone else wants one.

I like the look. To me the optional BBS wheels I had were not the right ones. They are a good, contemporary look, but I wanted something more in flavor of the original car, something not so prissy. I was also not crazy about the standards with that ugly cap (don't throw stones - I also have a car with those still on). I also think these are a good approximation to the wheels that were on the concept cars - with the wheel look that should have been on ours in the first place.

Curious of opinions - my feelings won't be hurt.

I thinking about buying the Bridgestones , but I am curious, is there a reason that you went with the 265s rather then the 255s.
The reason I ask is... the rear 345s are 0.41 lower in diameter then the 315s so would'nt it be better to have the 255s which are 0.23 lower then the stock 235s, rather then 265s which are 0.02 taller then the stock 235s.
Stock GYs setup (235/315) is 2.59" lower ,so the 255/345 it is 2.41"
But 265/345 it's 2.18".........
Just my thoughts , I was just curious , I noticed a few GT owners going with the 265s :willy

track report

i have not seen any track reports on these tires so i will make one now. at shelby club event at elkhart lake a couple of weeks back i ran a stock ford gt with a pulley on the bridgestone 265/40 zr 18 front and 345/35/zr19s rear. they are excellent tires but i do think there was more push/understeer than with the stock goodyears and i had to trail brake carefully into corners to set up a car rotation drift. the car ran 2:32.1. last year with similar weather and the goodyears and no pulley it ran 2:33.3. so, considering a pulley enhancement not much of a gain and im afraid i have to agree with KOSUPPLY"s earlier post. he knows what he is talking about. the goodyears would be faster on a consistent basis counterintuitive as that seems since the car rotation is easier to control. i would not have believed it myself but i dont argue with electronic timing.KOSUPPLY's comments on handling are correct although in turns where you can do aggressive trailbraking you can get the car to rotate but you cant easily do that consistently in all turns.

I don't have a huge concern about a little height difference front to rear, since I have T&A perches and can adjust to compensate if needed. I have no 1st hand experience with these tires, but from what has be posted, I think the Bridgestones vs. GY the BS should be better for the street because they have better grip during acceleration, but on the road coarse the GY are a little better. However if you are serious about the track you would be running Hoosiers.
