As I posted B4 - 'TRIED EXACTLY THAT!!!! 'GOT SCREWED OUT OF THE ONE I ORDERED!!
GM wouldn't do SQUAT to get me my car afterward ether! So, I said, "SCREW 'EM", and bought the GT! (Then I sent a pic of me standing beside my GT to Rick Wagner.)

YOUR POINT ABOUT THE ZO6 IS RIGHT ON, SIR!!!!!! ABSOLUTELY, 100% RIGHT!
You'll get no argument AT ALL from me on THAT statement!!!!!!!!

But, that having be said - Dangggggggg! I like my GT! And if GM hadn't screwed me over - I wouldn't HAVE IT ...so, mebbe I ought to send 'em a "Thankee" note???

NAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! THAT will never happen ... the #%$%#*#%@!

I was planning on buying a Z06 too, but when I saw a GT in person, I loved the looks and was willing and able to pay the tariff for it. I knew performance wise, with my skills and guts level, I would never find any performance differences between the two.

It's like when you ask a beautiful lady out, you are pretty sure it will cost you more than asking an average looking lady out and the level of performance may not even be any better.

Many times the beauty is slower off the line and you a less likely to get her to the finish line.

I agree with your "performance difference" stmt 100%. There isn't 10 cents difference between them ...'cept "top end". And when can you GO FLAT OUT with a GT and stay out of jail????? The 0-60 ...0- 100... etc, is sooooooooo darn close, I mean - who'd nit-pick between 'em???? In a contest between the two, the DRIVER would pbly be the determining factor as to which car won!

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaah! BUT! Park the two "side by each" at a car show, or wherever, and see which one draws the crowd!!!!!!!:thumbsup :banana
And when was the last time you saw traffic all messed up because a Corvette was around?????:shrug

As to the "ladys" statements ... all I can remember is: I'm SUPPOSE to be interested in 'em ... and I KNOW I like it when they're around ... but, I don't remember WHY ...:confused So, I'll just "bow" to you prespective in that area, Sir.:bow

Just what I was thinking! What is that all about???

I think the answer seems pretty clear that the GT should be a cheaper car to run. Ultimately it's a truck engine and some wheels - OK, that's a pretty severe analysis, but it's not a complex engine built by Italian monks in the high mountains of Northern Italy using tweezers. I had an early (2,000 mile) oil change and the most expensive thing was getting the car shipped to Roush! From memory the oil filter was $40! Having a few Aston Martins (one of which I've spent $150k on in 12-months), I'd say the GT is as cheap as chips to run. The fact that it's head and shoulders above just about any other exotic going, is an added bonus.

The watch comparison is always an interesting one - i.e. the $10 casio Vs the $45,000 + Breguet. I have the latter and it keeps no better time than the former - but there's a pleasure in it's ownership, I know the name of the guy who put the movement together.... However, were we to stretch the comparison, I don't think the Ford GT is the $10 Casio. It's a limited edition Jaeger perhaps!

As for watches...

There is a saying "If I have to explain it you wouldn't understand..."

It kind of blows my mind that mechanical watches can actually be made as accurate as they are. I love the idea of a little finely crafted machine is on my wrist ticking away, the kind of item that you could pass down a generation or two, instead of some boring ubiquitous quartz model with a rubber strap.

As for Todd...

Let us know what is up.

For me here the Ford is more expensive in maintenance and driving so far than the Ferraris.
When you get a new Ferrari, there is basically not much to pay if anything breaks or needs adjusting or updating. They do all and everything for free, at least that has been my experience to date (had bought four Ferraris so far, two new ones on order).
With the Ford everything costs. Tire wear is high, due to grip/torque ratio, Fuel consumption is ludacrous, parts are hard to get and installs take for ever as people are not familiar with it.. BUT the GT is also way more fun and spectacular to drive ! New brakepads, are simply a question of when you are prepared, or trying to stay away from hard breaking to avoid getting a new set soon (we here drive easily 160/180 miles p hour on a regular highway drive to the office, which might need to be taken into consideration..
Wouldn't say the Ferraris are in the same league of satisfaction as the ( slightly modded) Ford GT.. Except maybe the 599 coming, they simply have not the same powerband. But they are beefing up. As did Lamborghini.

On the same token I would believe the Ford GT is cheaper to maintain in US than a Ferrari. And, with the ridiculous speed limits, wear and tear should be close to nil, fuelbill the only thing to have in mind, but then, we are talking fun cars, and like women, they cost.. Can't afford, stay away.

Tell us your barbeque recipes, looks like you are cooking a nice tri-tip, I would imagine you first started with a nice rub, then a good spicy sauce. If I am invited a would bring a nice bottle of Ridge Montebello over. Have you notice that the early 930's whale tales have a few hot spots, I think 85 and 86 make the best grills, your thoughts Todd?:biggrin

I may never buy a new Ferrari after that article.

My eye is on a mid eighties Boxer 512BBi or early 70s Lambo LP400 (classic wedge no flares, wings, ducts); all the depreciation and service is done.

A '85 308 GTSi QV is nice too as a weekend beater for like $40k (camry money).

Interesting thought, I wonder how many new Ferrari's get modded beyond the exhaust? I know I have a couple of bucks of mods into the GT already.

One of my friend's picked up a 2001 Ferrari 550. He said even the older ones don't see many mods. Here's what he had to say:

Yeah, with 550/575s, not much to do... There's a Novitech body kit, but
there's not a lot of room on the engine besides airfilters, exhaust,
etc. There's a company that reprograms the ECU (Eurotek I think) for
the 550, but with questionable results.

The 360s can be supercharged... I saw a
guy who had a supercharged 360 at CC a couple months ago. I think the
main thing is any upgrades are pretty much money down the drain for
F-cars... Most people prefer stock or near stock for these cars, so your
potential list of buyers at resale is going to be dramatically smaller
if it's tricked out too much. I recall seeing Gary Sheffield's (the NY
Yankee) 360 Spider on eBay and Fchat a couple months ago... Most people
hated it (I actually didn't mind it, but I wouldn't buy it), and I think
they were asking about what a stock car would have cost... And it had a
lot of work (including exterior panel work) done.

A little bit more, and you could've had Thomas's 308...

(from the internet, for educational purposes)

October 29, 2004 Celebrity, movie and television star cars have featured prominently in Gizmag recently, with the Batmobile going onto the auction block just a few weeks back. Now two more famous hero cars of 1980s television have gone under the hammer - the David Hasselhoff-driven KITT from the Knight Rider TV series and the original Ferrari 308 GTS driven by Tom Selleck in the smash-hit detective show, Magnum, P.I.

The cars went to auction on eBay closing on July 31 and the 308 GTS in particular was very disappointing in that it failed to meet the reserve price - it drove bidding up to US$60,000 but was expected to fetch considerably more such was the influence it had on the public perception of the Ferrari name and the brand.
Arguably the most significant non-racing Ferrari in existence, the Magnum 308 GTS has become an automotive icon to millions of TV viewers, who tuned in every week to live the life of the fun-loving private investigator who "borrowed" this fabulous car from his friend and benefactor, Robin Masters, for various sleuthing exploits around the beautiful Hawaiian isle of Oahu.
Easily one of the most recognizable Ferrari models ever made, this car literally became one of the principal stars of the show, making Ferrari a household name in America, and the 308 GTS the most desirable exotic sports car of the 1980s.
