Hi,

How much does it cost to own a Ford GT vs. a Ferrari 360? I’m talking maintenance and repairs. Are they more or less reliable than a 360/430? When they do break, do they cost more to fix? Perhaps given that the GT is still under warranty, it’s too early to ask that question. But if you could give me an idea, it would be greatly appreciated. I’ve never owned anything more exotic than an NSX (very inexpensive to operate).

So far, very cheap to maintain. No maintenance other than an oil change which was free. 4500 miles.

Yes, it's truely unbeleivable that people will take it hook line and sinker for a free autopsy. Almost like saying that Texas is a nice place. It might be, but it's full of Texans.

On an apples to apples comparison regarding usage , I would proffer that Ford would likely be vastly cheaper in overall operating costs than the Ferrari. For starters, Ferraris have replaceble timing belts that require (absolutely 100% demand) periodic replacement and when replacing the belts you might as well....and also do ..... etc etc etc. This gets real pricey. The Ford has chains and should run 100,000 on oil changes alone which (after all the bs is over) are simplistic and cheap. Ferraris also are hard on clutches which also lead to additional pricey collateral work. Another aspect worthy of consideration is the likely down time for the Ferrari as opposed to the Ford. All that being said a Ford ain't a Ferrari, however.

And "AMEN" for the fact the GT "ain't a Ferrari" - for all the reasons you stated, Doc!

NOT TO MENTION THE FACT THAT THE GT IS QUICKER & FASTER THAN EITHER A "430" OR A GALLARDO ... and the GT cost LESS for most of us to buy in the first place! ( Why would someone wanna PAY MORE for a slower car ... unless "status" might be the overriding deal???)

My experience with the 360 is that it is much more expensive to maintain. I had to truck my 360 120 miles to the closest Ferrari Dealer for every Oil Change or service. I can get my GT serviced locally. The 360/430(Its a Dinosaur) is also at the end of its lifespan soon to be replaced by a F460/500 with a new body style and more HP. The GT is also a better performer and more durable then the "Botique" Ferrari. The GT also says "FORD" on the side which everyone relates to instead of Ferrari which alot of people want to Hammer.

I remember reading a tread on watch collections. Why would someone want to spend more on a watch that keeps worst time and has a much higher maintainance cost than a $15 Casio?

I think most moderate level goods and services are more than adequate, people tend to pay more for a variety of reasons, none of which make any logic from a cost benefit analysis. Why do you think companies spend billions on marketing of their products?

Just an FYI. Mandatory 12 month F430 Ferrari service just performed. Three fluid replacement; brake, oil & coolant. Bill was $740.00. New F430's don't have the timing belt replacement issue.

Anticipated GT maintenance costs were a big attraction to me.

My most exotic car to date was probably a modified e39 M5. (Note: Be advised, if you mention your older/non-GT/non-exotic cars here, and that you liked them, a particular forum member might get agitated depending on his mood).

A buddy just picked up a 2001 Ferrari 550, his first exotic, and a real beauty. It's fairly safe to say, that his expected maintenance and operating costs should easily surpass our GT's. There are plenty of internet articles written about older (say pre-2004?) Ferrari operating costs, and they just about all agree, that it can be expensive for the unitiated.

I just didn't want to be penalized for driving my car. Plus, theoretically, we should be able to get parts fairly easily in comparison. I haven't owned my GT that long, so hopefully someone with high mileage can speak to GT operating costs. My only costs to date have been an oil change at 807 miles, which I did for peace of mind...

I was speaking SOLEY from the standpoint of when a buyer uses PERFORMANCE as the determining factor deciding which car to buy, 'ICE. If one is using ONLY that as the criterion - and that was my point after all - then it DOESN'T make sense to spend MORE to buy a SLOWER CAR. That'd be totally illogical. If one DOES NOT put performance ahead of all else - other factors OBVIOUSLY would lead some people to pay more to buy something else... an example of which I believe I mentioned????? Sheeeeeze.:slap

Do you and SPIRIT share a room, or what???????:shrug

I am sorry Empty P. I didn't know that was the point you were trying to make. In that case I would suggest dumping the GT and buying a 2006/7 Corvette Z06. Very close to the GT in performance, at half the price. Parts cost a lot less too.

As I posted B4 - 'TRIED EXACTLY THAT!!!! 'GOT SCREWED OUT OF THE ONE I ORDERED!!
GM wouldn't do SQUAT to get me my car afterward ether! So, I said, "SCREW 'EM", and bought the GT! (Then I sent a pic of me standing beside my GT to Rick Wagner.)

YOUR POINT ABOUT THE ZO6 IS RIGHT ON, SIR!!!!!! ABSOLUTELY, 100% RIGHT!
You'll get no argument AT ALL from me on THAT statement!!!!!!!!

But, that having be said - Dangggggggg! I like my GT! And if GM hadn't screwed me over - I wouldn't HAVE IT ...so, mebbe I ought to send 'em a "Thankee" note???

NAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! THAT will never happen ... the #%$%#*#%@!
