Concert bucket list

We also saw Rod Stewart, I think it was Pepsi Center. Another good performer. Lots of plastic surgery though.

I saw Elton John's The Red Piano at Caesar's Palace three times (each time with different people - one time by myself, 2nd with wife, 3rd with wife and friends). All agree it was the best show we ever saw. Note it was a "show" not a concert so the rules for evaluation are different.

I'm not a big fan of sanitized perfect live music. I can definitely appreciate the neurotic tendencies required to achieve it, but I prefer an experience different to throwing on a CD. I killed myself (and my hearing) compulsively going to concerts in the 1990s when I lived in London and I've been trying to go more lately. I'd like to make it a priority to see Radiohead, as they were one of the bands I somehow missed during that era.

Yo Yo Ma visited Steve Jobs at his home, and after playing a song he told Jobs he would have played at his wedding, Jobs told him "You playing is the best argument I've heard for the existence of God, because I don't really believe a human alone can do this." After he found out he had cancer, he made Yo Yo Ma promise to play at his funeral, which he did.

Thom Yorke makes me say the same thing to myself.

Best show I ever saw at red rocks was George Thorogood. I bet I've seen a dozen shows there. Never remember a bad one. Big Head Todd was pretty good too.

Lonesome George is one of mine and Lesley's favorites to see as well Mike, 7 or 8 times. You can tell he really enjoys playing and not just a burn out in need of a check. I've been pleasantly surprised the Spokane area has some smaller but very good concert locations that book a bunch of older talent. We've seen George, Eric Burdon, Moody Blues ( I was very skeptical, one of them even turned 70 the night of the performance and they were fantastic) and Clapton.

One show I would love to see at Red Rocks is Mark Knopfler.

I've see tons of shows around the country and it's hard to top these guys at Red Rocks. You seen them Tony?

If you want to see the "perfect" example of virtuoso and spontaneity try to find Stevie Ray Vaughn live on Austin City Limits. As a drummer he may have been the most solid, rhythmic guitarist of all time -- not bad lead either.

Like Clapton said the night he died having just played with several great players-- "he kicked all our asses" or words to that effect.

Stevie is one show I regret never seeing.

He was a total freak. Oddly under appreciated too.

Steve - next time you see Eric Burdon say "hi" to my mate Billy Watts, his new lead player. Billy is as solid as they come! "Old" lead "Hilton Valentine" now with his own group "Skiffle Dog"...oh, I love the music biz...

For anyone who was looking to see them again, The Eagles will be at the MGM Grand in Vegas on 4/21 and in Atlanta on 5/4.

John Lee Hooker Jr will be at Oskar Blues some time this month. A great show if you're local. I saw it on the calendar but don't remember the exact date but it is a Friday night in Feb.

Just saw Jimmy Buffet last night. Full house, mixed crowd from 8 to 80. 12,000 person arena. Not a seat to be had. Yes, with the whole "Parrot Head" stuff. What a Pro. The man knows his audience, his band and just where he's going. 12 piece band, back-up singers and an awesome sound system. You could actually hear every word at a perfect volume! At 65 years old this dude has many years ahead of him...

Garth at the Wynn. Front row seats. Unplugged. Very light country flavor without the steel guitars. Amazing experience. Must see and I don't like country music.

I saw Styx in Reno last Saturday, last min. Free tickets, but great concert, older crowd for some reason!

Maybe the kids today just don't get Mr Roboto? I know I was scratching my head...

I was expecting that song but they never played it. My kids know it because of Austin Powers.

Was Dennis De Young there? If not, not the real thing. He was by far the largest creative force in the band. :rolleyes

They must have read this, because they announced today they'll be playing in Detroit for the first time in 15 years in June. Finally. Would have preferred to not have to see them in a 23,000 seat arena, but I'll take it.

Goin' to see the Beach Boys 50th on their Anniversary Tour this summer. I hope whats' left of their voices can hold up and these guys can stay together, at least until their June date here in Detroit.
