I had one guy on the sidewalk walk over & say "Your car beats the snot out of any Lamborghini"

Other people ask me if its a race car

Other people ask me about it and I tell them the history of Henry Ford vs Enzo Ferrari & the GT40

What comments have you had about your GT ?

Last year at the Houston Classy Chassis show I was giving rides in the GT for charity. One girl just loved it so we went round twice. As she climbed out she said "this kicks the ass of any Ferrari". I asked her what she knew about the prancing pony cars; turns out she was the daughter of the FOC's secretary. So, I asked if her Mom was at the show, she said yes. We tracked Mom down and I got the daughter to repeat what she'd said to me - priceless!

Gentlemen,

When I put my TTGT on display at the Pavilion's a common question is "What is the top speed of a Twin Turbo Ford GT with an unlimited run?".

The stock GT went 211 at Nardo with 550 HP. But with 1050 HP the absolute top speed is unknown, because nobody has ever been in a situation where it's possible to find it. So my 2 word answer is, "Nobody knows".

This isn't something someone asked about the GT (though I've been asked many things)...rather it's an accounting of the reaction of a couple kids.

At a local show back in '06, couple of mentally challenged kids...one about 12...one about 8-9...spotted #1079 from across the 'lot and came running over to the car shouting, "A FORD GT!!! A FORD GT!!! A FORD GT!!! LOOK!!! LOOK!!! A FORD GT!!! And the older of the two said, "IT'LL GO 200 MILES AN HOUR!!!" You'd have thought those two youngsters had just been granted their biggest wish in life. I can still see and hear the two of 'em as clearly as if it happened yesterday. 'Never seen two kids anywhere near as happy and excited over anything in my life.

And THEY knew what the car was - THEY didn't have to ask...unlike so many adults.

(Oh, yeah, sure - they did sit in it...and they both made it a point to thank me and shake my hand when they left - with no prompting from anyone ...can you beat that? [And THEY are referred to as "mentally challenged"???] Man. I'll never forget those two little gentlemen. 'Still fogs my vision a bit any time I think about it.)

My brother and I drove from West Tx to Iowa to pick up my GT and hauled it back. After two days of solid driving we finally make it home at about midnight. My wife and mother in law come out while I am unloading. My mother in law doesnt know about cars but she knows that the ones I have are usually very expensive. As I am backing out I see a weird look on here face. I got out and asked them what they thought....

My mother in law said, "So you got a Mustang"? LOL, I had to explain to her what a Ford Gt was.

I had a car follow me very closely for a few miles last fall right up to our driveway at home (not all that unusual). We got out out of the gt and were met by a young couple who had absolutely no idea what the car was. When I told them they said "yeah....that's what our son said". The little guy was in the car....about 12 yrs old or so...very shy and extremely autistic. I knelt down to talk to him but could not convince him to come for a ride even with his parent's coaxing. I was however able to drive his younger sister around the area for a while....I had her stand up on the seat so she could wave at her brother when we passed. I don't know who got more out of the encounter...the parents..the boy...or my wife and I. Very rewarding situation.

Driving home from Rally 4 in Austin we were in a small west Texas town gassing up.
A gal asks what kind of car is it. I tell here "it's just a FORD, see it on the side of the car"?
She laughs and says, "no way THAT CAR is a FORD, you just put that on the side to fool people!"

EP never fails to impress me. Truly a great story and a wonderful memory.

Last 4th of July, my wife and I took the GT and the Ferrari to our local military base "Freedom Celebration" car show at JBLM (Joint Base Lewis-McCord). We had kids all day long queued for pictures in the cars as well as GI's wanting a picture in either or both cars to send to family/friends back home. Without fail, everyone was very polite and thankful for the experience. I can't remember the number of times GI's would ask: "How can I ever afford one of these cars?" Some of my sage advice came from our own GT Forum: Try to stay out of debt. Try to find that gal/guy that will work with you on the life issues marriage presents to most all of us, and, lastly, I know you think you are doing your level best, but, believe it or not, you can do better, so just suck it up and do it. We had these same guys and some gals, coming back all day long just to talk about thier future plans. We were very moved by these folks and thier desire to be around the cars. Would have never thought the day would turn out to be so memorable for us. DJ

three come to mind....

a). i was stopped at a red light and a tall Sprinter van pulled up next to me. a guy leaned almost totally out of the window (past his waist) and yelled out a blood curdling scream while pointing at my car, "now THAT'S what I'm talkin' about !!!"

b). i was stopped at the very same traffic light a few months later and an SUV pulls up next to me and the window rolls down. it is an guy in his 40's with a young woman in the passenger seat. i rolled down my window and he asks me, "is that a Ford GT"? i say, "Yes". He laughed and said, "my teenage daughter just HATES when I am right"!!

c). a new neighbor saw me wiping it down in my garage. he comes over and asks if I would mind letting him check it out. after about a minute, he says, "never, ever, ever, ever, ever sell this car. I mean NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER sell this car'! (i am probably leaving off a few "never's)
