It appears that after a three day bender watching Bullitt reruns with Steve McQueen flying his green 1967 Mustang Fastback through the streets of San Francisco Camilo decided he had to have one.:banana And hey, since we live in Detroit, let's buy one in California and drive it all the way back. So DBK says, yeah, that sounds convenient, can I go? The owner says it might need a little work so Camilo takes it to his California buddy's house cause he's got some tools. Jay Leno has a LOT of tools. He suggests the proper tool for Camillo's Mustang is a trailer. Jay's shop forman eye's the Mustang suspiciously and asks, "Was anybody hurt in that wreck?" DBK and Camilo are undaunted. A custom radiator cap fabbed out of a giant cork and a new radiator from auto zone later, they're on the road again. They make it all the way to Scottsdale just in time to hit the Pavilions with AZGT, Blue Moose, & yours truely followed by dinner at the Riata Pass Steakhouse. On the way to dinner the Mustang headlights flicker on and off so after 11 pitchers of beer we travel to AZGT's house to tackle the problem. A section of PCV pipe and a grinding wheel modify the headlight switch and the lights work perfect BUT.......now the car won't start. So Larry and I provided a push start tonight and tomorrow it's back to AutoZone for a new starter. Depending on headwinds and AutoZone operating hours along their route they should be back in Detroit sometime in early April. Tonight was a blast.:cheers Here are a few photos.

I'm in!!! Sounds like you've gotten farther with this than I have. Our transport might beat DBK & Camilo to the Indiana border!:biggrin See you soon Daniel.

Well, with the progress they are making and the color of the car, I vote for Turtle.

Like the story, it is really quick when it goes ....... I repeat, when it goes :biggrin

The Autozone run has already been made this morning. Let's see what the day brings.

Thanks Bill and Ted, uh, Camilo and Dave. Excellant ...........
:cheers :cheers :cheers

The last two days down here in NC have been great 60's during the days:banana Sounds like Long island was also good to GT JOEY!

This weekend alone I was able to:
1/ Hook up the Heffner pipes - video on the way
2/ Install the Accufab Throttle body
3/ Retune the GT with a new tune from HP (Tony G)
4/ Start and drive the 69 mach 1 - last trip before I yank the engine and replace with a 408 stroker and have the body refurbed. I've dealt with the "twists" of older Mustangs. I'm sure DBK and Camillo are also experienceingt the same problems many of us have already had to deal with (ie. alternator, starter, radiator, solenoids, cable's etc...) and..
5/ Started and even moved the '73 eldo vert.

Now for the new year and setting of new goals for 2007. Only go up!:banana

Good luck DBK and Camillo - hope your in a good place!

Damn Mike, you all have been busy. Time to sit back and toss down a Plymouth martini or two and cheer in the New Year!!

My Wish for You in 2007

May peace break into your house and may thieves come to steal your debts. May the pockets of your jeans become a magnet for $100 bills. May love stick to your face like Vaseline and may laughter assault your lips! May your clothes smell of success like smoking tires and may happiness slap you across the face and may your tears be that of joy. May the problems you had forget your home address! In simple words ............

May 2007 be the best year of your life!!!

Super Sunday

What a perfect day and fun time wth the traveling duo.

Well, the Turtle was good today. Turned out the starter was not bad (even though the Sunday morning Autozone run had already been made for a new one) - I left a wire off when we disconected the solenoid :ack . Sorry guys.

Great time Saturday and Saturday night fixing the Turtle (untill about midnight). Great dinner at a western resturant that used to be a stage stop (with Blue Moose picking up the tab :thumbsup ). Saturday we also did the Pavillions show.

Sunday was perfect.

Another local GT owner (thank's Dan) owns a race track - 2.25 mile course with three wondeful straights. He met us there with some of his friends and we had three hours of unlimited runs all by ourselves. They handed Camilo and DBK the keys to a hotrod Crown Victoria police interceptor and said have fun. They did - man that car could move.

Chip and I also let them take the GTs around for some laps (as long as they promised not to run into anything - they didn't).

The Turtle looked more like the rabbit going around the track....... :biggrin

Then off to the airport where the Blue Mooses joined us. Chip (former champion stunt pilot) took the dynamic duo (one at a time) for a little spin ....... and dive ...... and roll. Camillo was fine - was a little more shaky once back on the ground for a while. And DBK, well .......... good thing he did not have lunch yet. Both rides ended with a low flyby at around 350 mph.

The duo headed off into the east to try and be back in Detroit by April. The Turtle was running - one tail light out (but at least it wasn't flickering). Camillo could not able to open the trunk so we could fix that. Hope they don't need their clothes from the trunk or the spare gas (or the two gallons of water and a blanket we sent them with just in case).

Great time - great people, and wonderful memories. Also nice souveniors - I now have a Camilo sketch of a GT on my garage wall. Priceless time.

In Texas driving. Just got off at "inspection station"? Got waved through. Internet connection, like car, somewhat unreliable. :lol Will report later. Arizona was awesome. Friends, track, hurl-inducing plane ride. You haven't had enough fun unless you're causing involuntary bodily reactions.

We'll probably be back in two weeks...If we make it to Detroit by then...

p.s, AZGT = Larry the Cable Guy :wink
