California owners: Let's organize a drive

Ok so if the 7th is hard for most we can try and reorganize somthing for January. We only have the next two weekends for 2013. So we can try and do somthing in the first half of January. For thos near LA if you guys still want to do a quickie. the speak out as I still have a halfday hallpass

I'm a no go for the 7th. I'll actually be down in SoCal but to celebrate my son's first birthday with family. Have fun if you get a group together!

FUBAR will finish his build before you guys go for a drive.

Seems that way. I've been on a handful of drives over the last month with some friends up here. Sad that I seem to drive more than the guys in SoCal with the perfect weather, perfect scenery, and car events EVERY SINGLE WEEKEND if one needed an excuse to take the car out of the garage.

Well I know when I can pedal again and Hollywoodstunts gets back from his movie gig in China we will both be on the road with a vengeance.

Granted it will be after the new year but 2014 will be the year of the SoCal GT!

Ed- first things first....I think we need to move you down to So. CA. There are plenty of people with broken bones down here.:wink

As for the 7th....I'm free. Anyone else interested, speak up. Arya...I'll definitely come up your way. Or we can meet somewhere in malibu etc....

I'm interested if it doesn't rain . Current forecast ( depending on who you believe) has a 40% chance of rain on Saturday ( 7th). But, the forecast was 70% yesterday for that date. So, it's looking better. I can drive out to Malibu . Not too familiar with that area but Starbucks website show 3-4 shops in the Malibu area (?). Anyone have a better place to meet?

you could meet in the parking lot of the Ralph's shopping center right on PCH......likely to be much more space to spread out a little.......

Sure wish I could join you guys on Saturday if you go....

I live near Malibu and frequently make early weekend morning drives there through the mountain roads.

We had about 18 GTs make a drive up there 3 years ago.

Here's a suggestion: Meet at Starbucks on Cross Creek Rd just off PCH. Big parking lot, lots of space. From there go up Malibu Canyon Rd/Las Virgenes, turn away from PCH inland toward the Valley and Mulholland. Left on Mulholland (signal intersection). Take Mulholland past the Rock Store and about a mile or so later there is a great outlook spot with a big place to park, can't miss it. Continue on Mulholland to Kanan Rd then left on Kanan back down to PCH, or turn right and go to the 101 Freeway. It's about a 30 minute drive without stopping at the out look.

Start at around Post 115 or so....

Yep that's it Ralphie.

Our run that day went past Kanan on Mulholland and took it all the way down to PCH, then doubled back from PCH to the restaurant in Westlake Village. That was a great day, huh?

Depending on how much time we have, someone mentioned Ojai. That looks like another 1-2 hours up PCH then inland up HWY 33 to Ojai. Can come back via Hwy150 through Santa Paula to Hwy 126. From Hwy 126 you can pick-up I5 or go back onto PCH/US101 for the return. Not that familar with this route, and just looking at a map.

I saw the forecast as well. My weekend is open and I look forward to this...so let's see what type of weather we have. The Ojai run is terrific if time permits.

We have NorCal drives Bonehead. Come with us!

Yeh, I saw the worsening forecast (now at 70-80% chance of rain for tomorrow).
How about next Saturday ( 14th) ? Long range forecast shows a much better chance for good weather ( no rain) then.

GT's usually don't mind rain too much. but most owners on the other hand……...

Yes Jeff I am a Panzy and wont do rain. I remember few years ago after a rain day I spent an hour drying her off. But you guys in Seattle dont have a choice ha?

Well guys, the weather forecast for this Saturday ( 14th) indicates sunny, warming and no rain ( guess I'm a "Pansy" too ). So, how about a leisurely drive up to Ojai ? Depending on who's interested and where their coming from, I'm open to determining a gathering point/time and route. I think we can do a quick trip in 2-3 hours ( from western Los Angeles area) and if time permits, for a couple of hours more we could continue from Ojai and explore the mountain roads above Santa Barbara/Santa Ynez ( and, maybe do lunch too). We ( wife and I) are planning to go irrespectively. We need to get our FGT out for some exercise soon before the holidays /weather close in on us.
Santa Ynez.

Sounds like a great idea Ron. I'm in. I have a commitment in the afternoon, but going for a 2-3 hour drive / breakfast before or in middle sounds great to me. I'm in the South Bay. Hopefully there are others who will be interested as well.

Best,
amir

Amir,

Well, It looks like just us ( I'm OK with that), and maybe others will joint us at the last minute.

Do you have a preference for going up via PCH (through Malibu) or US101 (through Thousand Oaks) ? PCH is more scenic but US101 is a bit faster.
Meeting somewhere for breakfast first sounds like a great idea.
