...I had the pleasure of being invited out by Mark McGowan. If you ever get an invite or this opportunity do not pass it up!...I was humbled by Mark McGowans driting abilities on the wet and dry skid pads.He should be a Professional drifter! He would clean up!iMark was an awesome mentor/teacher .I learned more with Mark in one day

Right ON, Ron - Jeff (PL510*Jeff) and I went out on the Proving Grounds with Mark and others last October - What an experience!!! Unfortunately, I can't remember a lot of the day, as Jeff and I took them to one of their favorite watering holes that night, and, well, you know............

One of the best days of my life....

This is a great subject for debate, I've also been wrestling with the same question. Mark McGowan joined a group of FGT owners at my home in Arizona last month with Ford's Laguna Seca test vehicle. It really is quite an awesome car. But finding one is tough! Dealers want $15 on average OVER MSRP. I have taken a different direction and have been talking to Ford Racing about ordering Boss 302S, which is not street legal, a stripped-out, safety-enhanced version of the LS. They only plan to build 50 of these. Now I just need to convince my wife!

Tim, keep looking for an LS is my opinion. Having the car be street legal is a big plus and even with an ADM, the street LS is likely less expensive than the 302S.

I am also interested in a sweet track car and street legal is a big plus. But because of collectibility and no cage the LS does have draw backs. Currently most dealers are holding steady with 15-20k of ADM. Obviously my store was not rewarded with a LS this year.

I wonder what a good SCCA legal cage install will cost?

I was thinking of a roll bar .The preproduction car has a roll bar.Since there is no back seats ,it makes sense.
To me the beauty of the car is drive it to the track and drive it home.I plan on not using my trailer this year!

Tim,

I have a friend that runs the World Challenge, and he is waiting on the new Boss 302S.......the few that are already out are kicking a$$...and with that new 5.0..I was told the car is unbelievable.........I have the FR500S...and over the winter we did a little work to bring up a little HP........355RWH.(from 280).......took it out this past week to Ponies in the Pocono's......and the only car to get near me was Gary Patterson with a 675 HP GT350......(he also passed me..lol),,I was told that the 5.0 with the Boss 302R..and the build combination cannot be beat...........I am considering going to the new Boss 302R myself.........one thing for sure...you wont believe the car...(for a track car)......and you'd be surprised at the handling that it is capable of..........great luck in your decision...........If Rocketman brings his Boss to Miller, I will bring my FR....... or maybe?

Dont ignore the "regular" 302, when the torsen diff "check box" is checked you also get the seats, the only things differet (relevant to the track), will be brake ducts, and the rear brace. Kind of negligable and easy to add, especially if you are really prepping it for the track. Yes the tires are different, but again, if you are really tracking it, hard, probably will go to a real race tire, like an R6 or further.

Not sure the LS in 13 will be much better with the shift to black and white cars with gold accents, very 80's trans-am like....

Ford Marketing Cares - In response to your request, the 2013 LS model will have an appropriate hood graphic added as standard. This in lieu of the red roof and wheels. :biggrin

About $5,000 for a good, weld-in cage qualifies for SCCA and Grand Am. I did the math, to turn a base Mustang GT into a legal race car with the same specs as the 302S, you'll spend nearly the same money. The difference is that in turning a street car into a race car, you just reduced the value tremendously. Factory race cars on the other hand will hold value assuming you don't trash it.

If anyone knows of a Boss302 in dealer inventory or available to order please PM me. A friend will buy one if he can find it for MSRP.

Thanks!

You can try Butch Strain at Jim bass Ford in Texas. They had a orange/black w/recaros on the way for MSRP + $1K. I haven't seen an MSRP deal available in the last 6-8 weeks.
