Any one else going? A number of us SoCal local GT owners are heading down that way. I was checking the rules of Registration, Bidding etc. as I have never done this before. If any of you can tell any of your experiences and the do's and dont's, I would appreciate it. Aslo, how do you get seats up close to the auction line? The bigger the credit line letter the closer you get? Or, first come first serve?

If you have a bidders pass you have pretty good access to cars on the block. Don't expect to find a seat in the 1st few rows during prime time.
Set a max price you are willing to pay for a particular car and walk away when the bidding flies past your max price. The frantic pace of the auctioneers can be very confusing. It's not unusual for some bidders to be bidding against themselves. Some exceptional buys can usually be made on the 1st day and last day, particularly if the weather is bad. The best cars and big prices are usually found on Friday afternoon - Saturday night. There will be some phenomenal cars and some that look phenomenal that are not even road worthy. :cheers

Call me at 559-246-7943 during the days for a primer.
I will not be doing this one, between the Rally and Sema, just can't justify the time away from the salt mines.

Get out of Dodge.

Gentlemen,

I've lived in Scottsdale for over half a century. I was a very young man when Barrett-Jackson came to this town. I've had a lot of fun at that event over the last few decades, especially the last couple of years with the Ford GT owners. I'm sad to see it move to Las Vegas. Good for Nevada, bad for me. I have not decided yet whether I will travel north to attend this year.

Maybe we need a dedicated GT Forum folder category to finding a legitimate reason to drive our FGTs to Vegas each month of the year ???

The subject of BJ came up on another forum I'm on. A respected and well known poster offered this advice.

The vast majority of buyers are dealers buying their own xxxx back!

As soon as they leave and the stage empties the prices drop hard

I amongst all this ''Pro-Wrestlin'' BS there are the Fish and yes there are more than a few.

Barret once said ''You can't pay too much. You just brought too early''

He started dealing cars buy reading obits and buying stuff from greavin relatives.........

A few years ago I was watching two of my buddy's on TV looking glum cause their car wasn't getting a real bid..... Called one on his cell .....
Saw him answer the phone right there on TV and told them to "Smile the world was watching!" Couldn't believe he answered the phone

Here's how it works..... Auction companies make deals with those that support them throughout the year........ there is little or nothing paid if the car doesn't sell and reduced fees if it does

If dealers had to pay they wouldn't have 2/3's of the cars they have!!

I have sold at auction and never paid a reg or seller's fee. The companies are happy to have my cars as a draw

Watch the auctioneer take bids some he points with his hand open some with fingers held tight....... Spotters do the same thing..... these are real and fake bids........ the poor fish doesn't have a chance

The dealers stand on the stage and watch to see who's real and bid the fish up

You don't have a chance........

Meanwhile if your just a normal guy with a good car the auction company will try to BUY YOUR CAR CHEAP with their own guys bidding once or twice

Many folks will let their car go at a low bid rather than pay the auction co even more money and take their car home.........

You are all "fish in a barrel" AND they get national TV coverage

There is only one guy I trust in the Auction game...... and there are times when I wonder about him too

This isn't my opinion just passing on the info.

Frankly I was going to delete your post. It is infamatory dribble.

If you want my credentials, google my name "daniel bonyhadi" and you will find evidence of articles published in Hemmings, Car Collector, Sports Car Market etc.

Auctions exist because they are a market place for folks to gather and see lots of merchandise. Just like shopping centers and flee markets.

The rule is always buyers beware, there are frauds, clones and duplicates in every area including automobiles. Some folks do their homework, and some don't. There are great restoration shops that always do great work and then shops that freshen up cars for a quick sale.

For you to come on this board, as a nonowner and state that a respected company that does a life style event is dishonest is shear stupidity. If you knew anything about B-J you would be aware of the famous Ramcharger sale that took place two years ago. A judge owned that car, felt the car was short hamered. Then sued BJ who countersued, and finally wrote a publc statement of apology. All larger auction houses tape the action on the block.

Yes, if someone brings top cars to any auction house they will get a better slot across the block, better display space. Auctions are like any other industry, there are discounts for frequent buyers and sellers, is that illegal.

It is legal for any auction house to shill or chandaleer up to the reserve price. It is illegal to shill bid over the reserve price. Last year BJ was all no reserve and I watched many custom construction motorcyles and hot rods go across for 50% less than the cost of the parts.

That being said, do your homework. If you know the car well you might be able to buy it better including commissions, taxes etc at an auction than directly from the private seller.

But for you to come on this board with such a plum stupid post is wrong.

You'll be staying there instead of The Hotel during the Rally?

We stayed for a week at the Palazzo in June and enjoyed it very much. Never even ventured in some parts of the suite during our entire time there.

I have someone at the Venetian that always takes care special care of me and the family. My wife and 2 boys share all my travel experiences and always have since the day they were born - I vowed when we brought them to this world to not let them alter our lifestyle, but more introduce them to what we do and enjoy along the way. If the boys can not attend, we change our plans.

The Venetian staff and a special someone go out of their way to make each and every stay incredible. Safety in Vegas is a priority to us, and we wouldn't compromise that. Having said that, there are many other great hotels, the Venetian and the Pallazo suit us the best.:thumbsup BTW, the Venzia is old world Italy at its best and the Pallazo is modern Italian luxury at its best. The newly constructed tower aka VII, may be condos for sale, at a price of $1K per sq. foot!:eek

No not the blue one, another one .

I actually just stayed at the palazzo a few weeks ago, nice new hotel and NO cigarette smoke smell! I also enjoy gambling at the venetian, so the fact that they are connected was great.

My wife informed me that we might be away that week due to her birthday (same week..aarrggh!) so now i am not sure i am headed there.

I have attended two BJ auctions and had great expereinces both times.

Earlier this year I sold a Cobra replica that cost me 30K for 51K at the West Palm Beach auction . So I am not sure it was unfair.

Chip, I don't follow you. It's not moving to Vegas, just adding another venue. It's scheduled for Jan 11th in Scottsdale as usual.

I think they are frustrated with the city of Scottsdale and this is some what of a litmus test + bravado. If LV turns out huge, you can bet he'll threaten he's leaving.

Jasckson has been sparring for years with the City of Scottsdale. As we discussed on the telephone, Vegas has never been a good auction town, lots of folks have tried, Cline-Williams' THE AUCTION and KRUSE have all done their best work.

B-J did several auctions at THE PETERSEN on Wilshire & Fairfax in LA and that venue did not work out well for the sellers, great for the buyers since the turnout was so light.
Prices where way off the norm, and the sellers came expecting a Scottsdale type of event.

B-J PALM SPRINGS does not bring the same audience as Arizona.

Keep in mind that what makes Arizona work is that it is a great citym RM, Kruse, Russo Steele, Gooding and Silver all run events that each compliment the other.

Texas GT,

I stand corrected. There has been so much scuttlebutt in the papers here the last two years about Barrett-Jackson leaving Arizona and moving to Las Vegas that I assumed the new Las Vegas event was replacing Scottsdale. The City of Scottsdale has a history of chasing large events/venues out of the city, the Phoenix Coyotes hockey arena being the latest example. Barrett Jackson wants to move out of the tent on the dirt lot and into a permanent structure. The City of Scottsdale is dragging their feet.

In any event, thank you for correcting my misinformation. I'm glad the event is still here is that means I can throw another GT owners party. :banana :banana
