The subject of BJ came up on another forum I'm on. A respected and well known poster offered this advice.
The vast majority of buyers are dealers buying their own xxxx back!
As soon as they leave and the stage empties the prices drop hard
I amongst all this ''Pro-Wrestlin'' BS there are the Fish and yes there are more than a few.
Barret once said ''You can't pay too much. You just brought too early''
He started dealing cars buy reading obits and buying stuff from greavin relatives.........
A few years ago I was watching two of my buddy's on TV looking glum cause their car wasn't getting a real bid..... Called one on his cell .....
Saw him answer the phone right there on TV and told them to "Smile the world was watching!" Couldn't believe he answered the phone
Here's how it works..... Auction companies make deals with those that support them throughout the year........ there is little or nothing paid if the car doesn't sell and reduced fees if it does
If dealers had to pay they wouldn't have 2/3's of the cars they have!!
I have sold at auction and never paid a reg or seller's fee. The companies are happy to have my cars as a draw
Watch the auctioneer take bids some he points with his hand open some with fingers held tight....... Spotters do the same thing..... these are real and fake bids........ the poor fish doesn't have a chance
The dealers stand on the stage and watch to see who's real and bid the fish up
You don't have a chance........
Meanwhile if your just a normal guy with a good car the auction company will try to BUY YOUR CAR CHEAP with their own guys bidding once or twice
Many folks will let their car go at a low bid rather than pay the auction co even more money and take their car home.........
You are all "fish in a barrel" AND they get national TV coverage
There is only one guy I trust in the Auction game...... and there are times when I wonder about him too
This isn't my opinion just passing on the info.
Frankly I was going to delete your post. It is infamatory dribble.
If you want my credentials, google my name "daniel bonyhadi" and you will find evidence of articles published in Hemmings, Car Collector, Sports Car Market etc.
Auctions exist because they are a market place for folks to gather and see lots of merchandise. Just like shopping centers and flee markets.
The rule is always buyers beware, there are frauds, clones and duplicates in every area including automobiles. Some folks do their homework, and some don't. There are great restoration shops that always do great work and then shops that freshen up cars for a quick sale.
For you to come on this board, as a nonowner and state that a respected company that does a life style event is dishonest is shear stupidity. If you knew anything about B-J you would be aware of the famous Ramcharger sale that took place two years ago. A judge owned that car, felt the car was short hamered. Then sued BJ who countersued, and finally wrote a publc statement of apology. All larger auction houses tape the action on the block.
Yes, if someone brings top cars to any auction house they will get a better slot across the block, better display space. Auctions are like any other industry, there are discounts for frequent buyers and sellers, is that illegal.
It is legal for any auction house to shill or chandaleer up to the reserve price. It is illegal to shill bid over the reserve price. Last year BJ was all no reserve and I watched many custom construction motorcyles and hot rods go across for 50% less than the cost of the parts.
That being said, do your homework. If you know the car well you might be able to buy it better including commissions, taxes etc at an auction than directly from the private seller.
But for you to come on this board with such a plum stupid post is wrong.
