Gentlemen,

I can't seem to stay out of Texas for very long. My son Charley is looking at several Universitys there and he's on spring break. So we have been bombing around Texas in my Glasair III. With a little tailwind we averaged 290 mph all the way there. Visited SMU in Dallas, A&M in College Station, Trinity in San Antonio, and today, Univ. of Texas in Austin. Before heading out of Austin, Charley and I visited the site where we laid Bony to rest. God bless America.

A good list of schools. Does he have an idea yet what he wants to study?

Charley wants to study Business and Texas has about 25% of the nations top 20 programs. Hey Ray, did you attend UT?

Soroush,

I am going to move to Texas. I love it here and Veronica and I have discussed it. I need decent economic conditions so I can sell my business & home and I'm there buddy.

Texas is freedoms last stand. Perhaps it will become an independant country again. I am John Galt.

Oh crikey, all we need is another Aggie?!? Southwest Texas boast an 8 to ratio of girls (8) to boys (1). I think they call that 'octopussy.' Study hall... whats that? Fortunately, I can show him all the good places to use a fake ID in Austin.

In all seriousness, they are all good schools. I just don't think I could stand to be the butt of Aggie jokes all of my life though. A few are fine, but it would get old.

I don't many Aggies who don't have a top job before graduation! They take care of each other. Thats tradition!. I could take some of that tradition after graduation, jokes and all. I'm not an aggie but that is a fact, and that means a lott these days. Tomy

Any correlation to Hayes County having the largest rate of STDs in the state?

No school in the world has a sports car club larger than Texas A&M. Gig Em :thumbsup '07

and Chris, I loves me a good aggie joke. Never gets old.

A&M question?

Gentlemen,

My entire adult life I have been amazed at the loyalty to thier school and to each other that A&M grads have. When C4 and I were in Africa 10 years ago we met 3 A&M grads from different years and they treated each other like brothers. Every body I've met who wears the gold A&M ring is a proud member of that lifelong fraternity.

I went to a great University that's a lot more exclusive than A&M and it's nothing like that. I have no contact with or affinity for other alumni from my school. A&M is huge, class sizes are very large, and the campus isn't particularly beautiful compared to others. But the students, especially the men, looked you in the eye and said howdy when they walked by. The school had a differnt feel than the others.

Have any forum members gone to A&M? What's the deal with that place and why does it command such loyalty from it's students and alumni?

Chip

That's why they make condoms and penicillin. Aren't you the one that didn't want to go to "Bikinis" in San Marcos? I'm beginning to worry about you son. I went to SWTSU and no STDs yet. SWTSU isn't one of the more "elite" universities but it was damn sure fun. I received my degree from The University of Mary Hardin Baylor in Belton TX (economics & finance). Never used it. I'm accepting offers on it and considering putting it on ebay. :cheers

A&M is an excellent school and well respected, especially for engineering. If I were choosing business and was really serious about it I would probably go to Harvard. Outstanding business school and I like Boston. But then again, spend all that money to probably work for someone else. Really don't even need a degree to work for yourself, I look at it as a "back-up" plan.:thumbsup

Matt (427Aggie) is an A&M grad, great guy and is very skilled in business.

I told my three kids that college isn't trade school. Take whatever you want, and get as diverse an education as you can. No excuse to take it easy. Good grades were expected regardless of their pursuits. After that, you can focus when you get to graduate school. They all abided by our guidance with my middle son being most attendant. He's graduating from Berkeley next month with degrees in Economics, Mathematics and Statistics. But the world has really changed. A college degree has the value of a high school diploma from years back. And a masters is that of an old college degree. So may as well enjoy and benefit from a diverse exposure to academics, and learn how to learn.
Best of luck in his choice. Sounds like he's got a great dad.
