The big universities have the resources and nationally recognized programs but there is also a tradeoff in professor to student ratio. The choice would depend on the personality and work ethic of your son. Personally, I've always been a lazy dude so I went to a smaller private school similar to Trinity.

Seriously, all joking aside. All of those are great schools even UT i guess. It was a hard choice for me between UT and A&M but when making that choice A&M was really for me. Felt more like home and a place to grow and love. Now that I have gotten older, I now realize some of the things missing from College Station compared to Austin. Looking back, I still wouldn't have done anything different.

Chip,

I just spent spring break doing the exact same thing and also saw most of the same schools with my 17 yr old junior. But, not in a plane. He was doing unofficial visits to the golf coaches at each school. TCU, SMU are beautiful and high on the education list, along with being great golf schools. We also visited Louisiana Tech that was very high on the list because of the golf course and facilities the golf team uses. Like Kumar I believe a smaller school is better for the student / athlete.
I have tons of family and friends that went to Texas State / Southwest Texas State University (SWTSU) I took my son there for a visit with the Golf Coach at 9 am, then tour the campus at 10:30, Lunch at Grins at Noon. As we left I made sure to drive by the river, where all the young ladies like to study in there bikinis, and let him see the advantages of the school. I THINK HE IS SOLD!!!! :lol:lol:lol

Gentlemen,

My entire adult life I have been amazed at the loyalty to thier school and to each other that A&M grads have. When C4 and I were in Africa 10 years ago we met 3 A&M grads from different years and they treated each other like brothers. Every body I've met who wears the gold A&M ring is a proud member of that lifelong fraternity.

I went to a great University that's a lot more exclusive than A&M and it's nothing like that. I have no contact with or affinity for other alumni from my school. A&M is huge, class sizes are very large, and the campus isn't particularly beautiful compared to others. But the students, especially the men, looked you in the eye and said howdy when they walked by. The school had a differnt feel than the others.

Have any forum members gone to A&M? What's the deal with that place and why does it command such loyalty from it's students and alumni?

Chip

This is Texas A&M. The school is built on Tradition. The disciple stems from its roots as a military prep school. It still exists today with the Corps of Cadets. They are a pretty serious group of men and women. We all say howdy to each other, on campus or not. I did attend Texas Tech for 3 semesters before transferring to A&M. It was the best decision I ever made. The two schools are not even in the same league.

Aggies look out for each other long after school is over. I have my job today because I am an Aggie. We get business because we are Aggie owned and operated.

Plus, there's always Northgate and The Dixie Chicken :cheers

Class of 1970. Gig'em :thumbsup

Texas has many good choices for your son. Freshman admission to UT and A&M is anything but easy. Applications exceed available slots. Both have enrollment management programs like no other. I can answer most of your A&M questions or put you in contact with the right person at the school.

As to your last question - Google: Muster and Silver Taps. Both will help you learn what we are about. Muster is April 21. Both Phoenix and Scottsdale should hold Muster. You and your family will be welcome at iether.

PM sent.
