In a little bit of a dog fight with one of my viper pals, who thinks the viper is the end and be all of muscle. Was telling me that vipers can get up to 2000 BHP with aftermarket turbos and superchargers and that I should enjoy my viper more than the FGT, (right). What is the max range forum members get with attempts to increase BHP? What do these twin turbos-supercharged Hennessey FGTs run for BHP?

The Viper is the king because of displacement.

~1450rwhp is about the highest Ive seen on a Ford GT (Ray's car and Joe Piko's red car).

Given 330 cubes for the FGT and 505 cubes for today's Viper, one should imagine, mod for mod, the Viper OUGHT to produce more H.P./torque or something is completely screwy.

Here's the thing: A Viper can make more power with a BUILT engine. Show me where you can take a Viper engine, throw a set of turbos on it, and reliably make over 1000rwhp and I'll call it the king. No question is the Viper motor a ridiculous platform to make power, but as far as making huge power as the long block came from the factory, the FGT is as bulletproof as it gets. I do believe Torrie has been running the stock long block at around 1100rwhp for about 30,000 miles.

EP could have modded his GT to 2000 HP without any issues about engine problems. :lol

Now that's funny! But it presumes that EP could have gotten the mod'ing parts in to his garage_without_a_door.

But really (and I know there are a lot of Viper lovers on this forum) these two cars are not in the same league. One is a fine sports car. The other is very very raw. No amount of HP is ever going to make it equal to the GT.

EP could have modded his GT to 2000 HP without any issues about engine problems. :lol

you nailed it, the gt is the only car I know that can make 1000+ hp on a bone stock motor, no other factory car can do that except for the veyron, the viper will make more power with a built motor but then again so can we, with a built motor, there are supras running around here making 1600+ hp :eek

as for enjoying your viper more than the gt, ask your buddy if he also has a gt then he is qualified to make that judgment.:biggrin

Why is horsepower the thing!

It is fun to know how much horse power you could get of your engine reliably.

Somewhere I read the gt block is good for 2000 hp.

Despite this 2000hp could be useless.
You need to get the power to the ground if you are doing 0-60 times or 1/4 mile runs. Over a certain horse power all you get is wheel spin in the lower speeds and tires (traction and tranny) become more important. (The Nissan gtr gets great # at lower speed because of its traction and demostrates the tranny issue). Horse power is only good for overcoming wind resistance or mechanical resistance after a certain speed. If you are looking for top speed or better acceleration at higher speeds, vehicle aerodynamics are as impotant if not more important assuming horse power is plentiful. The gt's greatness as much as in horsepower is in its aerodynamics(slicing and managing the air) and stability (air management) at high speed. The vipers downfall is air management. It is awsome to see so many gt's breaking 200 mph in 1 mile with 1000 hp and stock gt's with slighty over 550 hp being able to break 200 mph. I LOVE it when they start to compare these # in ability to the bugatti veyron or the saleen s7. More interesting than horse power to me is performance. I love the gt has such unbelievable potential.

If I recall correctly, one of the guys who worked on the GT team posted here on The 'Forum a while back that the mill was designed to withstand 1,000 h.p.

'Anybody remember who? And is my 'recall' correct?:shrug

I agree and understand with the above comments. Many forum members own vipers, was just curious if any forum member has reached the 2000 bhp mark? I guess the comment above at 1450 bhp is the max known on the forum? Man that has got to be tough on the engine?
