Easily

I had a customer/Forum member with his gal there several weeks ago running a modest tune and a 19 PSI Gen II run 206 or 208 so your goal is well within reach. FYI if he had run on Sunday I suspect that another minor tweak would have had him passing through the 210 mark; this while remaining very conservative.

Shadowman, how much peak timing are the 19# cars runnings? How hot do the IATs get on the Whipple cars?

My 609 whp got me 195.5 at the March 09 Mile. That day was the favorable day.
On Friday when the conditions were not as favorable the guys with a Whipple were pulling over 200mph (205-210).

I would say with neutral conditions 700whp would get you VERY close if not over the 200mph mark.

The Shadow knows and he chose...?

The Gen 1 and Gen II Whipple produce very similar results IMO and because the Gen III will likely be able to spin a bit slower to create the same measured boost there is a benefit however IMO because the discharge air temperatures will forever be the issue I suspect that any measured increase in horsepower to be a modest at best and yet having an even slower spinning supercharger is certainly a good thing.

Bill,

Knowing all that you know, which is infinitely more than most of the rest of us know, what system do you have on your own Ford GT? If you were going to mod your GT today with everything available today including the Gen III Whipple and available Turbo systems, what would you use? I know everything is personal preference but you are the Ford GT High Dalai Lama so I believe a short dissertation on your personal selection and your reasons for choosing it would be of great interest to our membership here. If you accommodate my request for this information I promise to buy you at least three Makers Mark Manhattan's when we get to Texas! :cheers Will you be joining us in Scottsdale prior to Rally IV? Thanks.

I'd love to hear Shadows choice also.:thumbsup

My experience at the Mile last year when the weather was typical, hot and head winds, did not show the Gen I Whipple capable of obtaining 200 mph when tuned to 93 octane. I was running a 19 lb pulley, Heffner tune, x-pipe with cats. I was disappointed to achieve only 193. That's when I decided rather than invest more in that car, I would twin turbo the yellow one. The difference is astounding!

The Gen II or III and a more aggressive tune would probably show better results.

I can't stress enough how much the weather in Goliad comes into play when talking about top speeds. A cool day with tail winds (very rare) will blow all the records away. It makes it impossible to use speeds achieved there as a benchmark to compare tuners or systems.

note: the day everyone was running the mile at this particular event there was a strong tail wind good for at least 6-7 mile an hour.

That had to be one heck of a tail wind; 6-7 MPH is a big number on a 200 MPH run.

Regardless I still feel that rolling through the 200 MPH mark can be done with the Whipple gals; Gen I, Gen II, and then the yet to be seen Gen III.

I think that a tail wind will be of less significance when compared to the temperatures and humidity on the day.

An early morning cool air pass will insure successful results.

There is no doubt that the TT setup affords you a significant advantage because of the discharge air temperatures not being as big a factor.

I think that with all things being right that the Gen 1 and Gen II can both do it however the Gen II will make it easier because the spin rate of the Whipple is less with the same boost being created as such the discharge air temperature will be lower for a period of time.

There is always the TT DMV/Registration No-No here in California.

On this you are so very correct and is insured by the testing mandated by "most counties" however as far as I know all other areas meaning States have the same issue however without testing they TT gals are able to slip through the cracks.

The mandates are (as I understand) Federal however how they are monitored is based on the State and then local areas within.

Do they actually put a sniffer in the exhaust or just read the OBDII port?

All where required get a sniff...... however some of the new equipment does not hook up to the OBDII port but rather they use the bar code on the door which establishes the requirement within the machine.

Typically the following takes place; and in this order;

1. Visual; does the gal appear as OEM with all systems in place, EGR, cats, etc.
2. Are the OBDII readiness codes set and no SES/Check Engine lights
3. Did she pass the sniff test

If yes to all of the above then you are asked to pay the revenue officer and then vroooooom

Working on it guys, have a local customers car at our place right now, kits done, just needs to be tested to get proper pulley sizes and belts. Other than that, it's a no brainer. I've been traveling for some boat racing the past month or so so I've been delaying everything simply because I don't have time. So, hopefully next week, I'll be posting some numbers for you guys.

Thanks,
Dustin
