The First Difference I Noticed

The First Difference I Noticed was on the top/back rounded center of the Side Scoops. On the '05's, including my own, there is a small section of rubbed away paint; on all the '06's I've looked at, the fix is a narrow piece of tape. Hardly worth mentioning.

Not so fast...

The pretty shiny one in the picture must be just a photo piece. There was never an arm like that on a production car. The 05s should all have the machined arms. You will see the actual tooling marks on them. The 06s should have the ones that look like the second of Jeff's pictures. (2 in the cardboard box:thumbsup )

Rich,

We actually switched over to forged arms in August of 05-prior to the 06 launch. The event that triggered the change was available of the less expensive forged arms. We switched over when we could no longer build up a complete car with the billet arms. :thumbsup :banana :willy

Your right about the billet piece pictured-never saw them looking like that although they were an absolute piece of art.

Here's a couple of photos of the '05 billet arms on the car. I shot these about two hours ago, they are from ACR Joe's beautiful silver/black stripe GT.

Photos really don't do them justice, but you can clearly see the machine marks on the arms.

cast to CNC billet to forged

I have the CNC billet arms on my '05 #1313. Remember they started off with the cast arms then retro-fitted all the cast arm GTs with the trick CNC arms made from billet until the forged arms were available. It wasn't a true model/year change. I believe the GTs are all continous production cars with changes (& price increases) made along the way. Some of the colors may be the only true year change. Am I close?

Your right Mark. I think I even have a picture of the first car to come in with the new arms somewhere. Dam, must be getting old. Do you remember the general VIN number range?

I need to start writing some of this stuff down. If I'm forgetting things from only 2 years ago, I'll forget everything in 10 years or so. If only I had wrote down the significant things when they happened. As the saying goes, "hind sight is 20-20" :thumbsup

The difference between an '05 and an '06, isn't it about 10 grand. Forgive me if this had already been noted for I haven't read the entire post but didn't good old Ford kick it up 10k just for the hell of it??? BD

No offense intended ! I was agreeing with you... unfortunatly I bought my GT after the 2006 price increase. If I offended you I'm sorry. My intent was to acknowledge and agree. The :thumbsdow was for the 2006 price increase not your comment.

No offense taken, I just wasn't sure what you meant. Thank you for clarifying GTNJ. Also, if I make an idiotic statement in someone else's eyes I'd like to know why so I don't do it again, or at least try not to..:biggrin :cheers

On my 05 (1490), there is a narrow piece of tape in the same location as you identified. I looked at possible contact areas, didn't see any. So I removed it. So far no rubbed paint.

I stand corrected. The three Red '05's I looked (Mine #0507)at here in Maryland did not have the tape. And you do have the front grille between the radiator and all that road debris waiting to poke a hole in it?

I was wiping down the seats in my car last night when I noticed that there was a difference in the two cars. On the '06 there is a section at the bottom of the seatback that is suede or roughout leather. The '05 has the same smooth leather as the rest of the seat. You have to look close or slide your hand between the seatback and bottom cushion to notice this.

I see no reason for the change and have no idea when this change was made because my '05 is a very early car and the '06 is a mid year car. Just another little quirk we may never know the reason for.

front inner fender

Early GTs have an extension of the plastic front inner fender to protect the shock. Later ones like my '05 #1313 do not. I discovered this while installing my Penske shocks with the T&A Shocks instruction guide.

Just read the rest of this thread.

That is a good question - 10K mid year increase following esentially a 10K increase in cost due to the A-arms. Hum ............ Another owner had told me he was accidently handed the bill for the A-Arm change and it was right about 15K. Maybe the increase was a partial recovery for Ford.

One other small difference since we are recording - remote key fobs are different.

One thing that remained the same is that the idiot light that comes on when you run low on gas says "check gage", not "check gauge". Hello Furd, sorry I mean Ford - spell check? But maybe intentional since "gage" is a challenge - maybe it is saying you have a challenge to get to the gas station before you find your as* walking :biggrin
