Dakota GT gets it Tom, where did your sense of humor go? Did you lose it on your way to FL?

I did.I have two lifts in my garage but was too lazy to pull the cars off the lift so I figured I would give it a try on the ground.
First I lined the engine bay under the pump and hose with oil pads.
Next I syphoned the reservoir with a vacuum brake bleeder, then disconnected the hose and syphoned the entire old hose.i did cut the hose halfway down in order to get all the way to the pump.
Finally I loosened the oil tank and gently slid over the oil tank(some blue tape and microfiber towels to protect) to be able to remove the tension clamp on the hose at the end of the pump.
No mess just a couple of drops on the oil pads.

I watched that movie after a rough day as a Navy flight student in Pensacola in 1980. That made it doubly hilarious!

I went through Pensacola '82-'83...then back as an instructor in late 80s and early 90s.

Is either PS hose pressurized, or just carrying fluid at atmospheric pressure? My large hose is slightly sticky and leaves black marks on a white paper towel, but doesn't seem soft or swollen. I assume that the hose is going bad, but won't be able to change it for a few hundred miles. Safe to drive?

They all will be going bad. Usually from the inside out. That means any contaminates will be going through your whole steering system. I have not found a hose yet that did not need replacing. The hose going bad is the bigger of the two coming from the tank. It is the low pressure return line.

Is it necessary to bleed the system after replacing the hose?
