Why did production stop at 4,033?

So we have a crash test dummy to thank, at least in part, for the value of our cars today. Lets raise a toast to that un-belted dummy!

    how are our brakes "powered"?

Thanks. Doesn't get much simpler than that.

    how are our brakes "powered"?

Just thinking. Since the brakes in a normally aspirated car are typically assisted by an engine-vacuum energized diaphram, how are the brakes powered with our boosted motors? Is this typical with other positive pressure motor applications?

Why did production stop at 4,033?

Cool! Then there should be an extra 400 sets or so of gauges sitting in a warehouse. Oh wait, those will be the same as the disposable ones in my car now.:frown But really, this foreshortened production run must have created a greater spares inventory than was originally intended, at least on...

Boss 302 ls at watkins glen

I noticed the Glen map graphic at the bottom. Is that your transponder or a rental from the track? Are the circles on the G map 1/2g and 1g?

How to jack up rear (or front) of car without a lift

I used a 3in. x 3in. square mild steel tube with 1/4in. wall. This is plenty strong and stiff enough. I cut it 30 in. long, then fixed the 2 wood blocks with a 20.5 in. gap between them. Each block is 3.5 wide x 2 deep x 1in thick (tall) but could be any size that fits within the size of the...

How to jack up rear (or front) of car without a lift

Another lift-less jacking option: In the pics below is what I do to get the wheels off the ground. A little more hardware than the others here describe, but it does it safely and without any twist induced. I made the ramps from 2x6's - just the right height to fit under the rockers. I made the...

Carroll Hall Shelby, Dies today at age 89

Shelby's involvement with the GT40 program is well documented, but all I've heard about his GT work is the assignment of "technical advisor". I'm curious as to how his inputs were used to steer the final product. He didn't have decision making authority, but what kinds of things was he consulted...

Carroll Hall Shelby, Dies today at age 89

Years ago I flew out to Road America for the annual Shelby meet but didn't get to the track to late in the afternoon. When I found the grass site where the meet was it was almost deserted except for maybe 10 cars scattered around, and a small RV right in the middle with a small table set up...

    Tech trivia question

Does the electrical system see a higher current drain while in storage if the car is locked vs unlocked (are there theft deterrant systems while locked that draw more power)?

Pictures from Fabulous Fords Sunday April 22nd 2012

Is that the original Yellow color on the 68'? Weren't there were fewer than 10 yellow Shelby's that year?

    Any news on gauge failures?

That may be true, but my speedo needle is dead -stuck at 40 mph. That seems possibly like a mechanical issue since I'd expect a dead motor would leave the needle at 0. Are gages typically failing in the "off" needle position or is my mid position failure common too?

    Any news on gauge failures?

It could be helpful as owners and to Ford to get a count of the failures that the Forum members have experienced. Could a moderator set up a thread with "voting" buttons for each gage?

    Shop manual inconsistencies

Happen to notice these two figures in the 2005 Workshop Manual. The first references the exhaust heat shield shown just in front of the muffler. Does anyone have one of these on their car? The second talks about the removable tailpipe tips. Never seen those either. I suppose these were early...

    loose control under acceleration?

I think it was Fittapaldi who, when asked to drive for an upcoming race, said only if they can supply him with three cars 'cause he knew he was going to wreck two of them learning the limits of the car and the course.

    loose control under acceleration?

It would be good to hear from some of the weekend warriors who've done alot of track time on the GT, but in my limited track experience with a mid engine car I've learned to get on the gas when the back end starts coming around in the corners. Counterintuitive and scary to be giving throttle as...

    Oil pressure dilemm, Any ideas?

Years ago I put an auxillary electric oil pump on my SVO Mustang with the turbo 4. The pump came on for about 20 seconds with the ignition key to pre-pressurize the motor and then ran for about 90 seconds on shut down to prevent coke build up at the compressor bearing. Seemed like a great idea...

    Is two years too long?

For more than 30 years I've been doing 1,000 mile or so oil changes on the few cars I've had that get driven a few hundred miles per year, so 2 years or more between changes. But my rule of thumb is to change oil after a track day and always warm up the oil to full operating temp for at least...

    My new little girl

The weather is going to be awfully nice around here this weekend. Let me know if you get tempted to get the car out - would like to meet up nearby. The canyons are probably sanded but the roads out here are clean.

    Original owners or 2nd owners

For sure. You'll also want to check out Lefthand canyon - my favorite. Tighter road than 36, 15 miles with very little traffic (more bikes than cars) and very little straight.
