I had my Valentine 1 mounted to the left of the rear view mirror on a suction cup mount. At some point over the weekend, it fell off and pulled out the connectors from the back of the rear view mirror. So I remount the detector and plug the wires into the back of the mirror. Everything's fine and dandy.

Since I had moved the mirror to get easier access to the wiring harness behind it, I began adjusting it back to its normal position and... it BROKE OFF! TAKING A CHUNK OF WINDSHIELD GLASS WITH IT!!

I'm in utter shock. :frown

I don't even know how to begin finding someone to replace the windshield. :willy

Sit back. Its ok. SUCKS...., but its not the end of the world. You should be able to get the windshield replaced for under $1k and its not rocket science getting the windshield changed out in that car. Just make sure and find a reputable glass installer and make sure they are comfy in doing the work. I would also reccommend that you request to be present when the work is done. Sorry to hear about this, but it is an issue that should be easily fixed.

I'm in full agreement w/Bony ... BUT - I think I remember SOMEONE here on The 'Forum stating that THERE IS A WAY to do the replacement W/O removing the fenders.

Anybody remember the particulars on this???????

Shelbyelite, do you know something the rest of us don't about glass replacement? The front fenders need to come off, the glass is expensive with the antenna in it, and for a time, the proper sealant was not available; but, if your fenders are coming off anyhow, better check the gasoline filler tube and then get anything else done. Those inner fender liners are the biggest bitch to deal with. Make sure they don't bend the fenders.

We have only had to replace ONE glass on a GT ever. It was just because of a rock chip, but customer wanted it done. Installer said it was a little bit of a pain, but it was done without removing the fenders and turned out beautiful. Our cost on the windshield is around $750 direct from Ford. If anyone needs help getting one, let me know.

P.S. I will ask the glass installer what he did to do it without taking the fenders off.

Bony informs me, "It was karl from edmunds.. :)", who made the "no fender removal" post. But, Bony's swamped right now (for once in his life!:rofl), so I don't know on what thread that post is located.

So, there you go!:biggrin

windshield replacement

I had the windshield replaced after a rock cracked it while on the highway. Tasca Ford replaced it without taking the fenders off in under 2 hours.

I also have been told that the fenders do not need to come off. To be honest If they did need to It is not that difficult of a process. I do have a quality glass guy that does all my work for me and I trust. let me know If I can help.

Fenders Off or Not

I had mine replaced due to too many rock chips.

Fenders came off.

Window installer "followed" the book. Didn't want to take that chance of pushing the exisitng winshield into the fenders using the air bag tool for removal. He also mentioned that it "would be difficult" to do a proper sealing job with the fenders in place. Who am I to argue. Good logic. And no potential for additional damges.

$750 windshield, $1,600 to remove & replace fenders. Biggest ouch was to the pocket book.

Californiacuda informed me last December that his windshield was replaced with the fenders intact, so it can be done by an experienced auto glass installer.
