Xpel/Clear Wrap on NGT

I always wonder how long should owners wait for the paint to dry, cure and get some sun on it before having an adhesive wrap applied. In my experience the paint does not adhere as strongly to non-metal body panels and there is a risk of paint peeling off when the vinyl is being removed. I recall when I had my old Saleen wrapped and then after I sold it, I told the buyer who wanted to remove the wrap to take it to the same place or a specialist. But he didn't listen and went to local body shop to have them remove the wrap. The result was the paint peeled off from the plastic portions of the Saleen panels. I still gave him $800 in good faith afterwards and he was grateful but still it was bad. I would think waiting a few months for the paint to really cure makes more sense than applying wrap immediately after taking delivery. Especially since the NGT is all CF. What are your thoughts on this?

New wraps are MUCH improved over the old stuff, including adhesive release. Still need somebody experienced to do it. If the paint is 30 days old, that's plenty (I've been told).

You will be able to get an end date from the Concierge on the last day your GT was painted. Or rather they will at least give you a buffer on how long you should wait to apply clear bra. In all likelihood you won't see it for at least 6 weeks after last date of paint anyways.

This is (partially) why they don't offer any kind of factory clear bra option.

The most important Factor is "WHO" is installing the PPF and "WHAT" they are USING to cut the PPF.

I have been building SEMA Project Vehicles for the past 15 years. We are a wholesale distributor supplying to over 134 specialty shops & dealers. I have seen it all.

I have seen so many expensive vehicles that have been CUT by Razor Blades by Authorized PPF Dealers. This was a discussion that I had with these manufacturers at SEMA 2018. They are aware of this issue in secret and are pushing dealers to buy plotters and the template program. Unfortunately, dealers do not want to invest $5K in a plotter and pay for the software membership. But they want to still charge $6K starting for a full wrap on 1 car!!!!! The plotter alone will not trim everything for you. There will no matter what be the BLADE that will be used in certain areas.

Unfortunately, vehicles owners won't notice their vehicle's have been cut until its taken off.

Hopefully your enthusiasm for your allocation will have you continue to spend more time here. When you do, you will find that the questions you are asking have been thoroughly discussed at great length.

Just about every NGT belonging to forum members has a FULL wrap. Most have Xpel. Absolutely installation quality is very important. For me the risks, were worth it, to have the protection that the films offer. We are very luck to have a really good team on installers that have done at least 6 GTs that I know of (combination of new and old)

You do not have your location listed with your screen name, perhaps share that, to get some installer suggestions.

This topic has been my chief concern, since receiving the joyful news about receiving an allocation. Here in Sioux Falls, there is nobody I trust to do the job (which is essential to enjoy driving this car). The local guys here in Sioux Falls are barely adequate to PPF my Demon, McLaren, etc but this car needs a true expert, preferably one already familiar with this car. I may have to have the car delivered to me, and then ship it off somewhere, which isn’t very ideal or efficient, in terms of time and $.

Clint. My car has finally passed the cure date and is being picked up today for film next week. I am working through Morries ford in Minnetonka with the recommendation of my neighbor who received his Ford Gt last year and had the same installer. I can pass on contact info if you need it. Morries owns Bentley/Aston Martin/Maserati in town as well.

Midwest clear bra is the best in Minnesota.

Thank you, Dans. I know somebody else from SD going through Morrie's soon, so I may see how he fares. Sounds like a couple of good options!

The same MA team did my NFGT as well. Excellent job.

Most film installers will want to go 10%+ over size on the pattern & trim with blade to exact fit. A good installer can trim the film & not touch the paint.

I have been in the film business for almost 10 years now. Be very careful when picking an installer, I have seen a lot of cut paint over the years.

GT Venum Thank You.

I don’t think these guys on this Forum are comprehending how sharp a blade can be and how much damage a dull one can be.

I still teach window tinting but I no longer teach PPF.

I have only 1 installer that made the cut to install PPF. He has been with me for 9 years.

When I get my GT I will be micro managing the project from start to finish. I won’t even blink .

If you guys need help in any advice to screen your installer/ shop.

Feel free to PM me.

can you order the film pre-cut with a margin from a vendor with the equipment and the dimensions. are all the NFGT's exactly the same body wise?

You can order direct from Xpel, they show the patterns on website but price is very high direct.

Those prices are over inflated and you still have to install them. I have the templates and can plot them for you if you need them.
