I was reading another thread and got me thinking who has the earliest production car amongst us.

I will start, my blue is a 2005 last four digits 0164

Technically it's not a 2004. New model year starts in august of the previous year.

Nope....actually an '04]

Being produced in September 04 means it's an 05 model. Model years traditionally change in August so it would have had to be produced before August 04 to be considered an 04. Car companies can change year models whenever they want though so ultimately it's up to them.

I'd say you will probably win the earliest VIN war though.:thumbsup

The opposite is more true. I bought my 03 Terminator in June of 02. They began the run early and titled them as an 03.

For the record, VIN sequence doesn't indicate anything but a rough build sequence. It's roughly around there, but when I watched my car get built, there were cars that were nowhere near the same VIN range in process.

State of Confusion
I feel like "GTJOEY" is whispering in my ear......Well the earliest car sold to the "public", which was at Rally 3 , thanks to DBK/JAMAL/FORD....IS..........2004 cp-1 0004 vin. NOT A PRODUCTION CAR...
Boy that car will be worth something some day ................ thank you GTJOEY!
Next before politics.......2005 vin number 10 WAS THE EARLIEST. Sold as the 1st production car..our friend at microsoft still has it, blue by the way...not white as demo'ed at monterey.....
Now barret /jamal/ford just sold 2005 0007? its getting hot in here, but thats the facts so far...

For the record, DBK is correct with respect to Vin and Build dates, during 2005 the spread in dates are very small . But due to the Heritage in 2006 the numbers can be as far as 3 months! as the heritage cars were pulled off the line for special treatment. :thumbsup
I think we are going to see a real special book on all this coming for the holiday season 2010!

Haven't left just yet, Frankie. My Mustang convertible

is loaded up in the trailer, and ready to go. Looking forward to spending another Winter in Florida, driving all over the place to car shows. Already entered for Ocala in Jan., Orlando in Feb., and Pensacola in March - should be a fun Winter.

Lowest VIN '04 (4-0004) in public hands is with GT JOEY & crew (pre-production prototype). Lowest VIN '05 out there is 5-0003, which was auctioned off at B-J in Palm Beach, FL (Ford VP Mark Fields has VIN 5-0004). Lowest VIN '06 is 6-0003, it was purchased new by Harley Cluxton in Scottsdale, AZ. AFAIK, the first two '05 VINs and first two '06 VIN cars are still in the fleet of FoMoCo.

regards,

Jeff
