Geez Doc, the traffic is really that bad??? Yikes. I may need to leave a day early and bunk down in St. Georges then get a morning shot into SLC.

You can be sitting in traffic going between 3-5 miles.hour or stopped at 4 PM going through Provo, or as those who live in SLC say, "South of the Point of the Mountain". The drive through Central Utah, north of Cedar City is really enjoyable, you are in the Capital Reef National Monument, while there is nothing specific to see, the mountains on the east and the prarie on the west is quite serene. Remember the white church steeples along the way.

I may be in Park City on Wednesday, but have to go to Chicago on Thursday. Maybe I'll check with DBK about dropping in and seeing some old pals. Can't stay for any events.

11:00 for lunch and 12:00 for getting on the road is good for me!

It will be a 6-7 hr drive from Vegas. You should be okay in missing most of the 1-15 traffic south of Provo. Remember the white Shelby Mustangs and the white Hemi Chargers of the Utah Highway Patrol. They will be out there. Radar detector is a good idea.

Well, if you are arriving south of Provo after about 6 PM, kinda like LA, you should be okay. If you are arriving into the Provo area between 3-6, you will be delayed and in the traffic problem. I think if you leave Las Vegas, after 12 noon, you will probably miss it. It is an early week day so less traffic along I-15 until you reach American Fork or Spanish Fork area, then the traffic starts. Its not immovable traffic, but if you are driving a GT through it stop and go in hot weather, may not be what your dreamed of.

When you get north of Provo, up the hill and when you can see the Salt Lake Valley, that is called the "Point of the Mountain", on the right will be Widowmaker Hill, famous motorcycle hill, on the left is the Utah State Prison, Gary Gilmore and Ted Bundy were inmates there. Gary Mark Gilmore (December 4, 1940 – January 17, 1977) was an American criminal, and murderer, who gained international notoriety for demanding that his own death sentence be fulfilled following two murders he committed in Utah. He became the first person executed in the United States after the U.S. Supreme Court upheld a new series of death penalty statutes in the 1976 decision Gregg v. Georgia (these new statutes avoiding the problems that had led earlier death penalty statutes to be deemed unconstitutional in Furman v. Georgia). Gilmore was executed by firing squad in 1977.

Sort of local Utah Fame!!!

Midnite, You rock, that will be the best option. Enjoy the run through the Virgin River Canyon. Remember it is in Arizona with only Utah and Nevada access, but it is not infrequent to see an Arizona Highway Patrol running it. Slow down before the Utah Border. The UHP tend to place a cruiser in the freeway medium as you come up to the Utah State line.

Thanks for the clarification Doc......still thinking I'll break it into two days, even though I'd be going through Provo after 6pm. I'll be trailering the GT, so the going will be slow. This way I can allow for any issues along the road with the trailer or car.

We'll now be leaving a bit earlier, hit Vegas by 11 and continue to trailer directly to Miller. Due to the late arrival and early trackday schedule on Wednesday, we'll be spending Tuesday evening in Tooele. Can anyone recommend a place to stay?

Anyone have a good St George hotel reservation for Monday night and a quick stayover on our way to Salt Lake City on Tuesday?

Allen and George and anyone else who is planning to meet up at the South Point on Tuesday; In order to make the stop a little more convenient for the Arizona boys and girls, we have shifted the meeting place to Shelby's Museum. Its about two blocks off of the I-15 and is north of town on Speedway. There is an Iron Skillet about a block from the museum where we can grab a bite. The time is still 11:00 at the Museum.

If anyone needs directions, please PM me.

See you all there.

Aloha,

Dave
