Whipple 3.0 Belt Noise - Ticking/Squeak Issues!

For those that have upgraded to the Whipple 3.0, please post if you get a belt squeak at cold start. My suspicions is that these belts originally come with 12 grooves and they get cut to accommodate our pulleys that only have 10 grooves. The side that gets cut, is not perfect and is causing the squeak/ticking noise that eventually goes away when the engine warms up.

If you do get the squeak, just add a couple of drops on the pulley and the noise will go away.

You experience and/or opinions would be greatly appreciated.:cheers

Belt squeeks when cold, older the belt the longer the squeek stays.
race car so not an issue,
but I do agree with your diagnosis,
will be fitting a new belt in a couple of weeks when I change motors for an upcoming 12 hr race

I did have the same problem on my 4.0 Whipple, Yes the belts are cut down for our use. The belt I installed had a wable to it and Dennis sent me another belt that cured the problem. Also if you have not seen it yet my new secret weapon. It adds 100 RWH!!!!!!!

Sam, I'm with ya ..... Had Whipple for a yr now. Noise is staying longer...

After 1-2 min it now disappears.

What to do - sandpaper? dressing? A bar of soap as the Shadow stated in an earlier post?

Worse comes to worse - a new $500 belt :bored

...What to do....

Have Whipple get a belt manufacturer to make the proper belt for the application.

Cut belts are not a Ford GT part!!! Get Whipple to contract belt sizes necessary for the superchargers he sells! Ford GT people can afford them, and cars with Whipples should have a belt manufacturer and part number that they can order in the future. I'm disappointed they haven't done this by now!!!

I'm with you on this Ralphie. The more I look into it the more I'm convinced Whipple should have made a better quality belt. If they cannot fix this, who else can we have make this belt?

It would be great to hear from Whipple on this topic. I'm all ears!!!

I posted a video of the my belt chirp asking if I had a cricket in the engine bay two years ago. Whipple sent me a new belt a while back , then I misplaced it for a while, now that I found it again but never bothered to swap it in as the noise doesn't bother me that much anymore. Will try the H2O but Whiplle really should have supplied the proper belt in the first place.
Come to think of it, I can see HHGT promptly get out of the GT once he hears the belt chirp, open the engine bay, then spit on the supercharger, then gets back into the car calmly. Bystanders would think that he was pissed, but no, Sam just wanted to silent the noise. Don't be so disrepectful to our cars HHGT.

I fixed the belt chirp today by backing of the idler pulley a bit.Rich told me to do this before. Its the top of the belt squeaking against the pulley. Nice and quiet now.

Just came back from a drive of the car after two months not driving her. Boy I should take her out more often, except the roads around where I live is so congested, I have to get out early in the morning to avoid traffic. I paid more attention to the belt noise this morning and it lasted about 10 minutes and as soon as the temps are up, the noise goes away. I guess it is probably due to once the belt heats up and becomes softer, it won't rub against the pulley any more. I do see fine dust deposited on the rear glass so the rubbing is shaving a little of the edge of the belt off though.
How easy is it to move the pull forward a little? Did you have to lossen the idler pulley first?

Just loosen the idler pulley bolt with a 3/8" allen wrench carefully and let it move away from the blower about 1/4".The tenser has some pressure on it ,so when you loosen the bolt it will move on its own. This stopped my squeak. I modified a allen wrench to fit, cause its so close to the fire wall and glass.

I just discovered there is an oily film just under the Whipple Pulley that may have contributed to the spotting on the rear glass. I looked through the glass window for the SC oil level and it looks just a tad lower than it needs to be. Anyone had any problems with leaks from the Whipple Pulley?

I think I'm starting a new thread on this as well....
