I'm searching the most quiet one out there to go with my TT kit.
I would hate to get the same drone as I had back in the day with my Ford Racing Muffler (I did have delete cat headers at the time)

101,

None of them. I have tried several different X-pipes, and other non-X pipe muffler-less exhaust systems. I currently have the Heffner muffler-less/no cats system on. I own 5 different exhaust systems. With and without cats, and TT with and without cats. EVERY system other than the stock muffler (I own the Ford Racing Borla but have not tried it yet so I don't know about that one) has the 1900 to 2200 RPM droan. There is no way to escape it.

:agree:

Those that say there isn't a drone are not a sensitive to it, or drive with the windows open.

The ford racing will not have any drone with the turbo system. I have run that setup and it was my favorite

Shelby,

You're talking about the Ford Racing Borla muffler right? That's the one I have sitting in a box that I'll put on someday. There are 3 different Ford Racing exhaust systems and I want to make sure 101 knows which one will solve his droan. Thanks.

I believe that someone makes a system with a muffler in the crossover section of the X pipe.

I thought the Big Ass center console speaker doo-ma-hickee was in place to eliminate any drone!!!

Yes, you can ask EP too. The only drone EP experiences is the grumble in his belly. :)

Thanks for sharing your thoughts..
I would have liked to get rid of that heavy original muffler, but I don't want my car too noisy and sounding like an old Harley Davidson when lifting of the trottle, so I'll stay with what I got..:)

Thanks
Jason

I have the X-pipe with no muffler and to eliminate the "drone" you simply wrap the pipe with header wrap = No Drone. I used a high-quality black wrap that looks pretty cool as well...

Yes Chip, the catback exhaust. You cant use the other systems with the Turbo system.

I'll second the header wrap suggestion. I know you can't run a Borla cat replacement setup on the TT but when I recently wrapped a pair of Borla non-cat pipes for heat reasons my wife commented on the reduction in 2,000-ish rpm drone before she knew what I had done. I've run at least half a dozen different FGT exhausts and every one of them had some level of drone within a couple hundred rpm of 2,ooo (According to Her, as I'm sufficiently deaf I never knew there WAS a drone except per what I read). She btw is a school teacher with hearing like a bat yet runs the full header system on her GT.
I water-soak the material to stretch before wrapping so maybe after it heats and shrinks back I got a little dulling of the resonance as when you touch a tuning fork to quiet it. I'm definitely going to experiment further with the heat wrap on other FGT pipes.

I have the Accufab X pipe with factory cats and the system USED to drone, so I drove the car on the highway in 5th to avoid the 2K rpm zone. I am very sensitive to drone as I can't stand the vibration my chest feels even more than the rumble in my ears. But, for whatever reason after the Whipple install, the drone went away and I now am so happy with the exhaust and would not change a thing about it.

I think a Whipple should be included with all X pipe purchases. Problem solved.
