Ok, I have been told and also read that most hp kits that include (exhaust/pulley/tune/ect) make about 600-620 rwhp. Today I was told buy Ford racing department that if you use Fords kit >
(headers/exhaust/15lb pulley/tune/ect) from Ford it will make 650-670 rwhp
is there any truth to this , does anyone have this setup and why that much differance, also I think the cost is about 40% more, if so, is it worth it ?

Thanks

From what I have seen quoted by others, 650-670 RWHP is highly unlikely. 600-620 is more of a realistic number.

Those ain't enough anyway. You should get a Whipple or TT, and have 750+RWHP!:banana :banana

I do now, originally I was supposed to have the big Whipple for the Wixsom Rally, but it wasn't ready, so I installed a Heffner Pulley and Tune. I would now go twin turbo if I could pass the bloody stupid California Smog tests...

you don't have to get a new car smogged for 5 years in ca! On top of that, a little "encouragement" from B. Franklin and his friends will help pass a smog test very easily.

Accufab throttle body, intake sleeve, XPipe, Kenne Bell snout and SCT tune. All done by Accufab. 652 RWHP on 91 octane plus a can of NOS octane booster for each tank full of gas. Car stalled and pinged around 3000 RPM but John has since fixed the problems and is now running great. I bet my car would pass smog with no problem in CA.

I've got the Heffner Pulley and 91 tune with Intake sleve and x pipe by Accufab. Best pull was 593 but we were having some blowout on the plugs so we need to regap and redo the pulls...I think 600 at the wheels is about what you get....my guess would be Ford numbers are at the crank not the wheels.

What are looking to do with the car and what kind of power do you think you will be happy with? If you don't want twin turbo power than do the Whipple, exhaust and a tune.

Peak, my guess is that some of the variance in numbers could be attributed to running the cars on different dynos. Plus Bruce indicated that the car was pinging which would indicate that the car was running too much timing. This would equate to a few extra horses on the dyno but won't be good on the street.

Also I have noticed a decent amount of inconsistency between several different stock cars. On our dyno I have had some stock cars make 620 rwhp and others make closer to 580 rwhp. This difference always translates to about the same difference when modified. I will add that it seems that the higher horsepower cars have been dyno'd in the winter and the ones with lower numbers in the summer. The correction fact or in the dyno software should even them out but perhaps not for one reason or the other.

Bony,

no you won't. Or better, you shouldn't. The Whipple is the best of both worlds. Still punch from start to red line, and keeps the car very driveable vs the TT setup. Below Turbo spin speed, is a hole. then an explosion. Definitely impressive on a straight line, but mucho less driveable vs what you have now.

If I would even get it free, I'd prefer the whipple !

I have to disagree with you on this one....

The turbo set up is in no way whatsoever explosive....

The TT is the smoothest application of power out there.

well Ripper,

you are obviously more competent than I am on this. My previous biturbo cars were not really smooth trackable. Haven't driven a GT TT yet, but from what i know so far, also there physics apply.. lag.. equilibrium, pressure...more pressure..take some gas back or fly off.. would be interesting on a twisty track to see the big charger vs the TT run against the clock !

Germano,

Please see my stock tune post.
I had a totally stock GT tuned huge increase.
Then I had the Kenny Bell snout with pully (better engineered than just a pully). And the accufab throttle body, rubber snout liner and SCT programmer used. Price I paid is also listed.

Hope this helps.
