Which GT to buy?

Even if all factors are not equal (mileage, records, price) I would lean towards the color I like best.

All service issues can be addressed, if you start lamenting the choice of color that will be a big obstacle to overcome.

Tires are on the top of my list.

Would you recommend going to a Ford Dealership to have this work done?

I don’t know of any good shops in Las Vegas, but if there’s any local members here please suggest a reliable and trustworthy place.

I live in Vegas and brought my car here from Colorado. I'm sorry to say that I can't outright recommend the Ford dealers here in Vegas. When Gaudin Ford did my air bag services before I sold it I was going to have them do an oil change for which they wanted something like $625 and some other minor things to swap back mods were quoted at above Ferrari dealer hourly rates. I'd hate to see the bill for a complete fluid exchange. (Both Gaudin and Friendly are owned by the same person.) The problem is that while Ford trained specialists at the time, most of them have been scattered to the winds and it seems to me the dealers are leery of the car now.

Where is the car? When I bought mine I had it shipped to Rich @ The GT Guy and he did everything including tires and fluids and shipped it to me... Added some time but worth it especially if the car is in that part of the country.

Oh, add to the essential work the air bags which need to be done by a dealer or apparently Rich can get it done at his shop.

Also, on the color choices. Let me ask, are you obsessive/compulsive? I had two black Mustangs (a pair of 08 Shelby GT Barrett Jackson Edition) and a British Racing Green Cobra (which had just as well have been black) and they both showed every speck of dust and microscratches from cleaning. Take it to a car show and you'll wipe it down and by the time you're done it'll be dirty again...

53,000 mi,es on mine and apart from scheduled maintenance items all that's gone wrong has been fuel filler flap, a headlight bulb, and a side marker lamp that fell to bits. Hands-down the best supercar ever built, especially in terms of reliability.

Having owned a black car before in Vegas, I know exactly what you mean with it being a dust magnet. I also came accross this yellow 2005 while browsing listings:

Seems like it’s been changing hands pretty often as of late.. maybe you guys know this car. It’s not an ‘06 but nice color.. thoughts?

but my wife made me go for a 1 of 600 lambo - it’s value at best has held steady. but I drive it on occasion.. maybe 200 miles/yr.
What is it? I have a 1 of 142 Lamborghini so understand the feel.

If you REALLY want to drive it (alot of guys say that but treat otherwise after purchase....their money, no big deal), then buy the lowest price/highest mile one....in fact wait it out for a higher miles one (mine is heavily modified with 28k miles when I bought it so the genie wasn't going to be put back in the bottle so I have no issues picking up the keys.

And I guess you don't have a color preference......I sure did, only would accept 2 colors after seeing everything in person.

Black is my first choice of color in the GT, and yellow is second. Not too many colors to pick from on the GT.

I spoke to Rich today and it doesn’t look like he will be able to go inspect the car. (and having him service it in his shop after the purchase is a good idea). But first I need the PPI.. Anyone know a good PPI in TX ?

Here's my latest 2005/2006 FGT PPI list that you can use to short list your GT search before having a professional PPI done by a GT technician.

This would be a good driver car. Very reasonably priced. No accidents. Few external mods. No internal mods.

If you can't get Rich Brooks, Rich Robach, or Kendall/Ryan Pond to do the PPI, you could check with Dan Mooney of Team CJ Works in Austin. They've serviced quite a few Ford GTs and are familiar with them. Not nearly to the extent of the aforementioned names, but especially with a PPI list (like the one from partssmann), they might be worth contacting. They run a top-notch facility there.

A forum member's old GT. Lots of Youtube videos out there of this car. Legend! He now has a NFGT. If I wasn't building a new garage, I would be looking at this one for a nice "driver". Wouldn't hesitate at all. Looks like it went to Florida after Michael sold it.

Hi all, im looking to get a 4 option 2006 Ford GT. Have narrowed down to the following:

1. Black with 12k mi - priced in high 300’s
2. Red with 5k mi - priced in low 400’s
3. Red with 2k mi - priced in mid 400s
4. Silver with 600 mi - priced in high 400s

Which is the correct balance of color and mileage vs price. Thanks for your advice.

PS. On #4, if it is indeed "silver" the Quicksilver color was an 05 color. If it is an 06 it's Tungsten which is a really really nice color.

That's a good list, but I didn't see a place to add optional equipment whose presence might make a big difference in selecting one car over another, such as after market shocks, aluminum clam vents, GT Guy clam latch, GT carpets, hard wired battery charger lead, back up camera, Whipple, engine compartment bling, etc etc. One could even add such a list to help the buyer look for those items.

Looks underpriced compared to what the OP has been posting, won’t last long.
