I am also looking to acquire a GT.
I ordered the book.
I know about the axle bolt issue.
I have spoken with a few of the right people.
Any other recalls or details I should be aware of?
Thank You
Bill

1) Be careful of potential estrangement from spouse and children once comfortable chair is set up in Garage.

2) Allow for sufficient time to read each and every new thread and reply on the Ford GT Forum - 3 to 10 times each day.

3) Look for a very fast one - likely to be red.

A little under 1000 of the cars have billet control arms. About 150 cars had been delivered with a piece from a supplier using a new manufacturing technique that could have potentially gone bad (but did not) and had the control arms replaced with white glove service by members of the Ford GT build team.

Correct, and from what I understand, there are no cars out there out of the 150 or so cars that have NOT had the updated A-Arms put on. So this is a non-issue at this moment in time. I also believe there are MORE than 1000 cars with the billet A Arms as every 2005 car we have had in inventory with a vin number of 1800 or below has had the Billets which leads me to believe there were MORE than 1500 cars with the billet A-Arms

Every car got them replaced. The only reason the control arms ever became a topic of discussion was because a magazine wrote a poorly conceived article about it. This was the article that said Jay Leno was upset which made Jay Leno write a letter saying "Wait, what? No I'm not. They were great and came and replaced it and you guys made that up." etc, etc.

For the first ~150 cars that had the white glove service, Ford wanted to come up with something for the hassle. They bought 150 of Camilo's Heritage GT prints to give to the owners, which he in turn paid right back to them for his original White Ford GT.

I heard there was an issue w front A arms developing micro cracks. F40 had same issue.

That was caused by the new casting process that had been used. When the pblm was discovered, GT production was stopped and replacement billet A-arms were installed on all GTs made to that point. Subsequent factory A-arm castings didn't have that issue.

Bottom line: The A-arm issue no longer exists on any FGT.

There also was a rear seal 'issue' on a handful of very early VIN '05 GTs which was caused buy incorrect machining. That was solved on the affected cars by installing 'speedy sleeves'. The machining on all subsequent GT cranks was done per spec. I'm not aware of any 'speedy sleeve' cars developing/having problems as a result. So, that's not an "issue" either.

:cheers

(Edit: I obviously have to learn to type faster - and not stop to find stuff for wifey before I hit "submit", too!)

Just call Shelby, his prices are more than fair and he does a better job inspecting the vehicle than any PPI guy you will find. If you decide to go another route, be sure to have someone turn the key and check that all the gauges are functioning properly. There seems to be an issue with some of the gauges going bad from time to time.... cause is unknown.

Ah, now for the real issues:

1) Be careful of potential estrangement from spouse and children once comfortable chair is set up in Garage.

2) Allow for sufficient time to read each and every new thread and reply on the Ford GT Forum - 3 to 10 times each day.

3) Look for a very fast one - likely to be red.
