ACRJOE, great topic, with alot of laughs. While I don't own a GT, I have been around them plenty, and know alot about them. My episode is back when they 1st came out. I went to a Ferrari Concourso in Reading PA, in May of '05. Nice machinery there, but was wondering if someone would bring one. When I parked my car, I took a walk and what did I see sitting by its lonesome self, a Red/White GT!! I casually walked up to it, to check it out, and to see what the deal was.
Turns out, the guy who brought it, was trying to sell it for a friend. He didn't drive it, but trailered it up. The funny thing, this clown knew NOTHING about the car. Didn't know the hp, the torque, how the hatch up front worked, nothing. I think he was able to start it, since the button says "Engine Start". Now, being a Ford salesman, I quickly started answering questions that I knew the answers to. At one point, he closed the front hatch, but didn't slam it shut. Hence, the cover wasn't tight, but only latched. He tried in vein to push the blue button on the remote, but it wasn't working for him. Here's a quick synopsis of what happened, as I offered him more help:
"What's wrong? Can't open the front hatch back up?"
"No, it seems to not work" (this was with 10 people around now)
"May I have the keys?"
"Why?"
"I can get that fixed REAL quick for you?"
"Well....okay, I guess."
Took the key, opened the manual hatch release, lifted the hatch, and then shut it with a little effort. Volla!!
The dude was taken aback, and asked how I knew so much about this car, considering it wasn't out for very long. Told him I was a Ford salesperson, and I LOVE this car!! I also had to explain a few things in regards to the recall on the control arms to his guy (among many other technical things). The funny thing, the people around were Ferrari owners, who had their cars at the show. Some were saying I should stay for the day, and answer all technical questions, and even get paid. I had to laugh at that. Considering that this car only had 10 miles on it, and this guy didn't REALLY drive it, and I have driven one, I should have made a deal with the guy, lol.
Moral of the story, if you want to sell a item, (especially a high priced item like a GT), it is always good to know the product you are trying to sell. Oh, and he wanted $235K for the car at the time. :thumbsup
BTW, Joe, where are you located? I live in Chalfont PA, and haven't seen your car drive around Doylestown yet. If there are any car cruise-ins in New Hope, let me know. I'd love to bring down my new Mustang GT. Its all customized with painted stripes and everything. Love to get a pic of your car with my car.:thumbsup
