My vote (not that it matters) would be to replace the bolts regardless...thereby completely, absolutely eliminating every aspect of the issue once and for all.
I completely concur. While the chances of damage are low (but non-zero) the inconvenience of the car having to be towed and probably leaking transmission fluid all over everything aren't worth it...
