Just had my 1973 Omega Speedmaster Professional Manual Wind serviced.

Cost me almost as much as what I paid (years ago) for the watch to get it serviced and gently refurbished. All genuine parts.

Looks like new. Almost too nice to wear now...

isnt that the one the astronauts wore to the moon?

nice watch!

Thanks Soroush! It was the first mechanical watch I ever owned and is still my favorite (I only own a couple watches), I probably spent about a year looking for it. (pawn shops, second hand watch stores, etc.)

Yes, you're right, it's affectionately called the "moon watch," selected by NASA for the Apollo program.

* The Omega Speedmaster was the first watch to be worn on the Moon with Apollo 11. In April 1970, it was used to manually time the secondary rocket burns to bring the crippled Apollo 13 spacecraft back to Earth.

Case back looks like this:

I was actually beginning to think it was a fairly decent investment, based on the appreciation from when I bought it, but of course, the cost to service a manual watch can be pricey, so I plan to just wear and enjoy it. It'll be it's own reward when I can pass it down to one of my sons and hope they will enjoy it as much as I have. And it wasn't expensive compared to many watches today, and is probably not considered an expensive or intricate piece. Just wanted to share the pic, since I was excited about the rejuvenation.

I collect watches. The watch market is very similar to the car market.

There are vintage watches that will always hold their value by virtue of being old/rare (think 60's Porsches/Ferraris, etc)

Then there certain limited run watches which seem to hold their value pretty well (Ford/Carrera GTs, etc).

But for the most part (99%), watches loose their value the second you walk out of the store...just like cars.

I buy them cause I like them and I mentally write off the value everytime I do buy a watch. Makes it easier for when I get a $30K offer on a $80K Range Rover.

Heheh - thanks Soroush. Yes, there is something about a Black Ford GT that either calls out to you immediately, or doesn't. First Black car for me, and never looked back.

So true Juan. I just got a $22K offer on my $50K (MSRP) Land Rover. Thank god I only paid $30K for it. But SUV's are certainly tanking. I'll probably keep it, since it's worth more than that to me.

Kayvan - wow that is a very unique and cool collection.

I just sold a Vintage Speedmaster with the Lemania Movement to a friend who was dying for it. And I decided I still liked my "Moon" watch better even though I know the Lemania is rarer and likely more collectible.
