Volunteers Needed!!

Don at Safecraft needs volunteers in super hot climates to test the underhood temps on their GTs. He wants to be double dang sure that underhood temps won't exceed 300 degrees under even the worst circumstances. He will send you a small stick-on temp sensor to afix to your engine brace where the nozzle of the fire suppression system would mount. If your car exceeds 300 degrees, it will change color.

This is to insure that we don't get accidental discharge of our fire systems. Fyr-fyters was tested and didn't exceed 200 degrees but we need someone in the hottest part of the country to test it there.

Very simple, no damage to your car and a valuable service to the GT community.

Unfortunately (or fortunately :biggrin ) not in Arizona yet. It looks like Tucson and Phoenix are still in the 80/low90's this week.

I'll help. I'm in Phoenix and it is May. 100 degree days will probably be here before the sensor arrives.

Late July / early August I will be driving to Cali from Texas thru the deserts heading west.

Would be a good time time to test and locations as well.

Will be happy to put on the sensors and see what temps come up.

I am interested in the fire suppression system also, but been too busy to really get into the fray.

I can help. The weather will get warm shortly . The hottest day last year was 116* F. The average for a couple of weeks was 105*F. Also I'm assumning that after a long run with the car left in the sun, engine giving off a lot of heat with bascically no air ventilation to cool down. This I assume will be the real test to see how hot it gets in there with the shell down, with no air movement, baking in the sun after a long run.

I think Don needs someone to test it now, in the next 7 days, so he can be certain the 360 degree bulbs are adequate on the fire system.

I chatted with Don today as we move through the final details of these systems and I am going to place several sensors within the engine bay on my gal so that we will verify everything. Now add to this I am certain that he would still like to collect data from other folks as well.

FYI; I did not expect any concerns but rather a verification of lack thereof

My goal to read monitor the sensor itself and also to find out just how close we can be to the exhaust before we find the extreme number.

I chatted with Don yesterday about this and he said the test strips are in the hands of a couple folks in AZ and he is waiting for feed back.

Now on this end I should have my gal on the tarmac this week-end HOWEVER it will likely be under the cloak of darkness as such I suspect the readings to be very low.

BTW Don confirmed that the sensors are set for 360 degree plus or minus 2% so in candor I see no issues. Futhermore this exact sensor is being used by MANY race teams only having them go off during the process of saving their gal; to which he said several have been saved. He also said that he can assembly them in the 500 degree range but I think this is waaaaaay out there.

I have a set ready to go in Az this weekend also. Trying to get my car back together so I can go "heat it up" this weekend. I 'll post the results and call Don when I am done.

I'm going to have faith that the 360 degree heads are adequate. With the x-pipe I get plenty of airflow and holding my hand over the clamshell after a drive, it doesn't even feel overly warm much less hot.

I should have my system installed in time for Indy if anyone wants to examine it. I took the hardline option with the Cooltech cooler.

I got Shadowman's sub relocation and carbon fiber engine cover panel completed this morning. Looks fantastic. I am very happy. Cleaned the Gal up, put the temperature sensors above the fuel rail and took her out for a drive about 4pm this afternoon. Temp. was only about 100 degrees. Got the water temp up to about 220 with some stop and go driving. Came home let her sit with the clam shell down for 15 minutes. Checked the sensors and not even the 200 degree sensor had registered. I'll keep them inplace and wait for a nice 110 degree Az afternoon and let everyone know what happens. So far so good.

I know in early August it relly gets bad here in NC.... Black cars add 10 - 15F

Right now in Northern Ohio on May 19, it is about 49 degrees. Yeah, like I could really help! This weather sucks!

I installed my fire system yesterday and took it for a drive today. It was about 80 degrees but I drove it pretty hard (hit 160 on one run and 145 on the way back). None of the sensors registered, not even the 200 degree one. I don't think we have any worries.
