Today's Veyron is the 80's DeLorean. Everyone considered the DMC to be the Engineering Marvel of its time...I'm just saying...

The stainless body might of been a Marvel of its time, but the Renault engine, performance and handling was not. That's why the Delorean is a turd. IMO Veyron prices in the long term will hold up very well compared to others in the million plus price range. If not for the carry costs, I would bet buying a used Veyron will out perform US Treasuries and bank CDs.

A replacement transmission for the Veyron costs just over $120,000. It also has permanent four wheel drive using the Haldex Traction system. It uses special Michelin PAX run flat tyres, designed specifically to accommodate the Veyron's top speed, which reportedly cost $25,000 US per set.[2] The tyres can only be removed from the rims in France, a service which reportedly costs $70,000.

I don't know what marvel of engineering requires a car owner to send his wheels to France to replace them at $70K. Reminds me of sending your iPhone in to have the battery replaced. That is not engineering that is ridiculous followed by a consumer willing to throw $$$ away.

In contrast the tires on the space shuttle cost $5,560 each, the maximum allowable load per main landing gear tire is 123,000 pounds, and they are rated at 258 mph -similar speed to the Veyron.

I think there is a bit more engineering that went into the Space Shuttle than what went into the ugly engineering marvel.

Sorry, but I dont think an SSC even comes close to a veyron at any level. The SSC is too "KIT CARish" for me to be considered a Production car. Anybody can go put a super high HP motor in a car and obtain speeds in the mid 200's, build 10 or 15 of them and call it a production car, but its the all around car in my opinion and the Veyron is lightyears ahead of the SSC. Plus, when you build 15 or so cars, I dont exactly call that a "PRODUCTION CAR"

Ferrari says their new 599 FXX is "The first production car to lap the famous Nurburgring in under seven minutes." The production run is 29 cars. They aren't even street legal. I'd say the SSC is a production car as much as the Ferrari is. Probably more so.

P.S. There have been over 200 veyrons produced thus far.

Here in Sunny Southern California, take a Sunday stroll and you can barely turn your head without seeing a couple Veyrons parked next to each other...

And I certainly wouldn't call it ugly.

Speaking of the 599XX, the 599GTO I think is going to get rave reviews. It will be another car your grandmother can drive (with a seat pad maybe) at hyper speeds, but this one can turn corners!

Please do not hold back; tell me/us how much you dislike them; LOL

Thank you for the information as such I may redirect my passion towards a space shuttle but then darn....... the fuel cost would kill me.

I have seen about 6-7 veyrons over the years, and I have to say the coolest two I have seen are the Blanc Nior limited edition (its also a gransport, and I think the 1st gransport in the US) and another which was black on black on black on black. Very cool, wheels black, etc... By the way, there is a veyron dealership next to school :biggrin

I will concede that the BMW GT is an extreme embarrassment and a disturbing trend. Honda Crosstour... Acura ZDX... Why????? All so useless and ugly.

The Toyota Prius should NOT be a design influence...

I ran into a tree-hugger at the coffee shop today, she's ugly too. Her 2006 Prius has 60,000 miles and she just replaced the batteries at the tune of $3,800. The prius is another engineering marvel that belongs in the turd department.

Isn't that, in addition to hairy ugly feet in Birkenstocks a requirement to by a Prius? :ack

I'd gather that all those extra dead hybrid batteries aren't really going to help the environment too. FAIL environmentally. FAIL economically.

My design concession is strictly limited to the sole model BMW GT, not beyond that particular model. As for "disturbing" trend, I am referring to the bloated hatchback sedan Prius-like look.
