can anyone tell me how to correct the tarnish on the valve cover where it says powerd by ford?

I removed mine and had them stripped and polished about a year ago. Since then I just touch them up with a little metal polish. pd

Replacement is an option. if you want a set I can help you with that.

Tarnish

Those covers appear to be clear coated so stripping them and recoating or polishing them would be required. It probably would be cheaper to replace them.

I have that too. I would call it corrosion causing delamination of the clear on mine. I thought maybe somebody used a super caustic degreaser. Is this common?

IMHO, the factory piece has the history. Valve covers and fender emblems going way back to the glory days saying "Powered by Ford".

Not to say the aftermarket piece isn't beautifully made, it is.

I put these on mine...

(Once again), what you're looking at on these is trapped gases under the clear powder coat when these were manufactured. Unfortunately I was involved in the original fix on these which didn;t make production. new ones will do the same thing eventually. the strip and re-finish is a good solution or after market units would be a suggestion as well.

My coil covers and horn button have the problem. Really sucks because both parts are so prominent and I absolutely hate to hear..."well, IT IS a Ford".:ack

I can get over the covers since the fix only requires stripping and elbow grease, but a grand for a new airbag to change a $.02 cosmetic part? FoMoCo:bs

Guess I'll just refer to it as supercar patina.

It would be great if someone could develop a "stick on" Ford Gt horn button that looks like the original was intended to look. It is a heck of a waste to swap out a perfectly good airbag (which we will all need in the future) just to fix a cosmetic blemish on the horn button !!! PD

These will fit our 5.4 engines? I didn't see it written anywhere. Says it needs to be notched for the Shelby.

It is the correct part number for our GT's.
