Black Ice - How about a stealth Lidar jammer? Those cops will never know. If they do maybe Peak Completions will loan out his wife to us? As an attorney that is!

Best thing for my driving career was meeting my attorney / wife who was able to get me off of 9 tickets last year.. of course they were all bs bogus deals and the judge saw that :willy

I love my wife :biggrin

I know a couple of attorney's myself. I never liked any of them enough to marry but 79 tickets / 3 on my record. I guess if they offered a nice ring I might consider it.

But, Bony why would you ever need one? Also none of them are really stealth if you know what to look for, because the laser transmitter must have a clear line of sight to the receiver (lidar unit). Usually black little rectangles pointing front and rear mounted on the license plate holder or below the bumper line. But I have heard that they do work well!

This is a good thread and even though I do not use radar or jamming devices here is a nice way to add a power point to an existing fuse location.

You simply remove the exisiting fuse and this plugs into place and then you can simply install the OEM fuse back into this unit and then have a second fuse at a rating equal to or less in the second slot to potect the secondary device.

Takes care

Shadowman, what do you call this adapter and where can I get one? Does it fit in the SJB OK, still able to close the lid?

Yes it will fit as the net height is similar to the OEM fuse and then the two fuses are then inserted at a 90 degree angle.

As for what they are called; I do not know however I have used them for years.

I purchase them through Lehr Auto Electric under my company Discovery Automotive

Steve is my contact there and a great guy

Here is their web link

fjpikul,

PM me your mailing address and I'll send you out a similar device that fits perfectly and allows you to tap in for power.

Mine takes a liitle longer than 10 minutes

I wired my V1 to the mirror and made an interesting discovery. If I leave it on with the doors closed and the engine off, the computer thinks the interior light is on and then shuts off the power to the light in the mirror. I discovered this when I left it on accidently and the car started right up a week later. So, go ahead and wire it to the mirror power supply without a worry. If you forget and leave it on, it will shut itself off after 10 minutes or so and then turn back on as soon as you open the door.

Craig

A brilliant discovery, works on my other cars too. A real find.:thumbsup

THEY DO LAZER AND THE V1 IN A DISPLAY IN THE REAR VIEW MIRROR .VERY COOL BUT EXPENSIVE 3,500 BUCKS VERY NICE PEICE AND CRAFTMANSHIP. I COULD NOT SPEND 3500 AND ALSO AFFORD A DIVORCE ! SO I PASSED ON THAT AND THE DIVORCE !
I DO HAVE THE COOL TECH WIRE THAT TAPS INTO THE REARVIEW POWER.THAT WORKS PERFECT.
SO NOW ALL I HAVE TO DO IS CONVINCE RICK ,MARK OR ANDY TO HELP ME PUT IN A LAZER JAMMER !! wHAT DO YA SAY BOYS ??

I did the V1 install today per the guide here on this thread.

It went just fine. It took an extra 5 minutes or so, trying to get the feed down from the R inside A pillar to the R foot well area. But, after a few minutes, got that done, and it went very well from there.

The V1 seems outstanding. It may have a few extra "false" alerts versus the Escort 9500i (which I transferred to my 911TT), but it seems great. Only time will tell, as the sophistication of the many Escorts that I've used for years, seems hard to beat. But the V1 seems like a great product. I’m very enthused about it!

Any other experiences on this install and/or the V1? Would appreciate hearing!

And, btw, Norta4re, nice work on this project. You made it very easy. (And also, tnx for the R and R on the Ford racing muffler back last year. I got a great deal on that!!!!!!)

Thanks, Bill

Hi all,

I seriously considered one of the hidden radar detector installs with, perhaps, the principle advantage being the stealth display and, secondly, active laser "jamming". However, I really didn't find a good place to locate a hidden display and I have to admit that I just really like the Valentine units - already having one in each of the other cars. Also, I believe that if I mounted the V1 near the headliner it would be really hard for anyone outside of the car to see it.

So, the decision was made for the V1. Here's a step by step if you'd like to do the same.

1. Locate and remove the metal plate at the passenger footwell that covers the factory fuse box. There are four fasteners. No tools are required. Flip the D-rings through each fastener "up" and then turn the fastener 90 deg counter-clockwise, and remove. Gently fold the plastic insulation down and steer clear of the black tacky stuff used to install it.

2. Pull the Radio fuse. Note: If you have the Mac option, the fuse is in a different location. (Let me know if you need to know which one.)

3. Carefully solder an 18-20 gauge wire to one of the legs of the fuse. You may have to file the resulting solder to make sure you retain the full length of the leg.

4. Locate the Torx screw located above the nearest copper pipe. The Torx screw is a T-25 size and is on a black metal 90 degree plate holding the copper tube as it passes through the front firewall. This will be your grounding point. You might see a few other screws but none of them provided a proper ground in my testing.

5. Attach the wires for your radio detector to this ground and "switched-hot" locations. Note: In the pictutres below I use small pigtail wires and then butt connectors to connect the V1 power-box. You can improve on my design by soldering the V1 power-wire (red) directly to the fuse and connecting the groud wire to the T-25 screw mentioned previously.

6. Mount the V1 power-box using the supplied velcro pieces. (Pic shows viable mounting location that does not interfere with metal plate.)

7. To route the wire up to the rear view mirror area, no trim pieces need to be removed. Just work slowly and carefully and you'll do just fine.

8. Using a philip screwdriver, remove the passenger's flip-down sun visor. This will give you some room to pull the headliner down ~1/4" to sneak the wire along. Do this all the way over to where you want the V1 mounted at. Pull on the A-pillar end to get the length just right.

9. Fold the plastic shield back into place and re-install the metal plate. Fasteners are inserted, turned 90 degrees and then D-rings are folded over.

10. You're done. The V1 will go on and off with the key - just like the radio.

Here's some pics:

Here's the fuse with the wire soldered on and slightly filed so it will push right back into place. Note the wire insulation is slightle deformed from the pliars. No harm.

Here's the fuse back into place. Note the black wire trailing up by the copper pipe. This is on its way up to the T-25 Torx bolt. Also note the mounting of the V1 power box.

Finally, here's a couple of pics of where the V1 unit is mounted (using standard V1 suction cups).

Hope this helps somebody to save a little time.

Ok, I have a wierd experience with the Valentine One. I used to have one years ago, but I stopped using it because everytime I did it made my face feel warm on the side facing the detector. It took a while for me to figure it out, but it was no doubt the detector. It was very odd.

And, since I already know this question is coming; no I don't wear a "tin foil" hat to keep the "authorities" at the Empire State Building from microwaving my brain.

I also followed the great directions here to install my V1, but I did make one change.

I used the wiper fuse instead of the radio because the radio stays on when you turn the key off, until you open the door. I may want the radio on without the radar if sitting with the car turned off.

I used the wiper fuse, since I have never used them and it does go off with the key. Other than that, the directions were great.

Seriously, if you have metal fillings in your teeth, that could be the culprit. I know this first hand from my Army weapon test days. I'll bet if you power it up on the left side of your head and you have metal fillings, you'll probably experience the same symptoms.
