Use extreme caution if using your tow hooks

This is just a few pictures of one of 3 cars that we have seen this damage to within the past year. With the permission of the owner we wanted to share this evidence as a warning to all. If any of you have your towed for whatever reason DO NOT let the flat bed driver tie the back of the car down and pull the winch tight to take up the slack. It will break the welds on the front bumper and more than likely it will crack/break the front fascia when the bumper beam lets loose. Once again someone that is not familiar with the GT can cause big damage quickly and unintentionally.

ouch
thanks for the great post Rich!

Thank you very much for the heads up Rich. Never would have thought that that would be a potential result.

What would you recommend instead?

Wow, thanks for posting!

The factory recommends wheel baskets,... there is a warning notice shipped with every car.

Now that was (as expected) another GREAT post by The GT Guys

Thank you

Thanks! That begs the question of how more force can be safely applied to the tow hook. I sure it is designed to be used to move the GT on a level paved road, but what about pulling up an incline on a unpaved gravel surface? eg. GFB your GT fell into a ditch!

Thank you very much!

:eek:eek:eek:ack:ack:ack

That'd just HAFTA ruin a guy's whole dang day...:frown

I've not had cause to use the tow hitch on mine, but I do race it and could, quite easily, find myself in the kitty litter needing a tow....

Very interesting and useful post.... I assume the GT can be left connected to the winch (with wheel straps) as long as it's not at the back too?

Thanks.

Neilda I would think that it could be left attached but not under tension. The use of wheel straps is the key to properly towing the GT.

I install my tow hook when I track the GT. As far as kitty litter goes, thankfully it is there, but like the tow hook hopefully you'll never use it.

Thanks, Ritch.

I have winched in and out of a trailer, and it has been winched on and off a flat bed with out issue, this operator must have pulled it HARD! The hook was only used to pull in and out, car was secured with different tie down points (through wheels).

Good post

This exact thing happened to my neighbor. Tow truck driver yanked it up on the flatbed and then cranked the winch hard while the car was no longer moving. Did the exact same thing.

Wow! thanks for the heads up!

Thanks for the post. I just printed a picture of the damage and kept it in the car, just in case the tow truck driver is of the "I know what I'm doing" type

GREAT idea Junior. :thumbsup
Printing my pic right now.

Just printed my set of pics too. I am almost tempted to carry my straps that I use to tie the car down in my trailer in the GT. That way the tow-guy could tie down thru the wheels as proper.

Great info. Thanks :cheers
