EP is right about keeping their mouths shut about exactly how they did it - the less said the better. Cheers to the Seals! :cheers

Well..........somebody COULDN'T keep their mouth shut. 'Won't mention the network, but, they outlined the whole final op from push to shove - complete with computer simulation - for everyone to see.

'Unbelieveably idiotic. :mad

A friend of mine was in Bradley APCs during the First Gulf War. Even though they were not designed to engage main battle tanks, he said the army figured out they could stop a T-72 with their bushmaster cannons by shooting between certain road wheels. The technique worked great until newscasters got wind of it and broadcast it all over the nightly news. Within 24 hours the Iraqis had welded extra plate armor over the sweet spot. :mad

Same ol', same ol' regarding wiretaps and tracking finances where terrorists are concerned. (Can you IMAGINE the press being stupid enough to print/broadcast info like that in WWI or II? :skep OR the gov't not making heads roll for having done it?!)

EXACTLY!! And that's just one of the reasons for keeping mouths zipped. My buddies and I once laughed when we were given a classified intelligence briefing that included a photo of a Soviet aircraft which appeared to be the exact photo we could find in an issue of Aviation Week & Space Technology in the lounge next door. But our intelligence officer explained a couple of important things. First, the US military likely got the photo at an earlier date and through a different source than Aviation Week. Secondly, the AW&ST version of a photo would often be retouched or cropped in a way to eliminate some critical information, like background which could reveal when and/or where the photo was taken, which in turn might blow the cover of the source of the photo (AW&ST probably got the sanitized version of the photo from the military).

There's an old Flip Wilson comedy routine when he was doing his Reverend LeRoy character (can't find it on YouTube). He was chastising his congregation about gossip, and invoked the WWII slogan, "Loose lips sink ships!" He then followed with, "We have lips in this congreation that are loose enough to sink an aircraft carrier!" That's our news media today. :rofl:rofl:rofl If only these so-called journalists devoted the same effort to uncover info about those who want to kill us - but it's not in their DNA.

It never ceases to amaze me the potential lives that our media (US, UK and internationally) put at risk. As already mentioned, it wouldn't have happened in WWII, partly due to technology, but also that dissension seemed less prevalent in those days. Nowadays we have to embed CNN and the BBC, right up there on the front line - just to make sure we're following the rules.

Also we have this thing about being fair, fluffy and nice to terrorists, being aware of their rights in an all inclusive cuddly way.

Er no. You're trying to kill our boys. You have no rights. You gave those up.

Maybe I'm just gettin' more grumpy! :cheers

America! F&*# Yeah!

Somalia has to be very very high on the list of useless places in the world. Anyone wants to make a bunch of money, I'd imagine the demand for competent military trained maritime security around the horn of Africa is immense right now. Consider that tens of millions in ransoms have been paid over the last year for a small number of ships.

I have read many of the news clips about this. Blackwater has offered to do guard duty but for the most part has been turned down. Apearently if you put armed guards on a ship you raise your insurance payment not lower it. There are also issues of going into foreign ports with firearms.:thumbsdow

Story behind the story.

Sent to me from XXXXXXX, currently in Pakastan. When he retired from the U.S. Navy he was a Command Master Chief.

THE REAL STORY BEHIND U.S. NAVY SEAL DEPLOYMENT TO RESCUE CAPTAIN FROM SOMALIS

All of us want to raise our glass the highest this week to the Navy SEALs who popped those three Somali pirates. And I'm sure you want to hear the real story of what happened. Especially because there is a revoltingly opportunistic and cowardly side to it.

Why, for example, did it take SEAL Team Six (aka DEVGRU, Navy Special Warfare Development Group, the Navy's equivalent of Delta Force) over 36 hours to get to the scene?

Because Obama refused to authorize the SEAL deployment for those 36 hours, during which the OSC - the on scene commander, Cmdr. Frank Castellano of the USS Bainbridge - repeatedly requested them.

Once the SEALs arrived - parachuting from a C-17 into the ocean near the ship - Obama then imposed Rules of Engagement (ROE) specifying the SEALs could not do anything unless the life of the hostage, Captain Richard Phillips, was in "imminent" danger.

Thus, when Capt. Phillips attempted to escape by jumping off the lifeboat into the ocean, the SEAL snipers had all four pirates (one later surrendered) sighted in and could have taken them out then and there - but they could not fire due to Obama 's ROE restrictions.

When the SEALs approached the lifeboat in a RIB (rigid-hull inflatable boat) carrying supplies for Capt. Phillips and the pirates, the pirates fired upon them. Not only was no fire returned due to the ROE, but as the pirates were shooting at the RIB, SEAL snipers on the Bainbridge had them all dialed in. No triggers were pulled due to the ROE.

Two specific rescue plans were developed by Cmdr. Castellano and the SEAL teams. Obama personally refused to authorize them.

After the second refusal and days of dithering, Cmdr. Castellano decided he had the Operational Area and OSC authority to "solely determine risk to hostage" and did not require any further approval of the president.

Four hours later, the White House is informed that three pirates are dead and Capt. Phillips has been rescued unharmed. A WH press release is immediately issued, giving credit to the president for his "daring and decisive" behavior that resulted in such success.

Obama has absolutely no military knowledge or experience whatsoever. He demanded decisional control over the entire hostage drama to the last detail. All actions required his personal approval. He dithered like a coward while the world laughed at our warships flummoxed by four illiterate teenagers with AKs in a lifeboat.

Only when the Navy Commander decided to ignore his Commander-in Chief and take action and responsibility himself, were the incredible skills of the SEALs put into play.

The Obama administration would immediatly claim that his "bold" "calm" "tough" leadership was responsible.

Pride and gratitude to Navy Commander Frank Castellano, the Navy SEALs for their incredible competence, and our military.

Same thing from another source

Chip,

A couple of days ago I got an analysis of the action through a former Special Ops squadron mate who obtained it from a reliable source within the Seals. It was typical military - more cryptic and understated with no names, but it painted exactly the same picture as what you posted. I predict that Commander Castellano's Navy career will will hit a mysterious roadblock soon. Marshall Georgy Zhukov (Gen. Eisenhower's Soviet counterpart) learned that you don't upstage a boss with a big ego without paying a big price. I'd bet anything that Commander Castellano knew exactly what might happen to his career, and did it anyway. As I've said before, these guys are my heros! :cheers

'Recieved this same report from three different sources within the military, but 'didn't post it because of concern re: it's limited "political"(?) content.
