Get it wrong and this can happen:thumbsdow:ack
4500 racing miles only.
going on dyno today to run in and tune new motor.

NZ05GT

So true

The OEM pistons are a nice piece however the upper ring is very close to the face of the piston in part for emission reasons as such there is not much material to dissipate the heat.

Takes care

All the more reason to proceed very cautiously when trying to push ignition timing to the outer limits. Bill is absolutely correct in his earlier post, there are many, many variables to consider and may be different at the same track but at a different day or period of your track time. To just push timing up to a high level because someone tells you it's OK is foolish.

Data is necessary if you do not want to start breaking pistons as the earlier pictures show and Bill has rebuilt engines for this reason. Notice how quickly Torrie asked what "measurements" Mark had on EGT? Good tuning practice.

Incidently pilots use EGT measurements to lean aircraft carbs for different flight conditions all the time.
