Chip,
I just got back last night from a two day drive back from Orange, Virginia and haven't been on line to see your post. You are welcome to stop in T-town for anything you might need but if you need to motor on I understand. Enjoy the Trailex!!! :cheers I'll call you on your cell.

Chip..as you know, I towed with my Expedition to your house last summer. It is a good tow vehicle. As a retired Ford Motor Company Exec, Let me know if you want to add one (or for that matter ANY FORD VEHICLE including trucks) to your 'stable' because I can still do the ''Ford Friends and Family'' discounts for any and all of my friends...

Bony and Forum members, I have been scouting the St. Louis area for a future rally. One of the new casinos in town has the accomodations we need and over the next six months I'm scouting old Route 66 and routes along the Mississippi. Also scouting Anheuser Busch tours, Gateway Arch rides, etc, etc. I personally agree Texas or Florida should be next, and I still like the Colorado site.

Not wanting to hijack this thread, Chip was a most gracious guest and I'm very sorry I couldn't be there to greet him personally.

Well met up with Chip at the missouri/oklahoma state line. The trailer is sharp, Chip is freezing .... kept asking "so the whole winter is like this?" :confused my answer "Uh ... yeah... why do you think I want to move?" :bored

Attached are a couple of trailer pics ... he got his 592 brief on getting through OKlahoma .... basically a rundown of the toll roads, a burger from Mc Donalds and then off again..

The trailer is great, Chip is just chugging along and all is good. :thumbsup

I just checked my Ford Motor Co Website. I cannot do a ''Friends and Family'' discount on the Shelby GT 500 or other Shelby Mustangs. Also can't do Jaguar Vehicles this year (possibly due to the imminent sale to TATA of Jag and Land Rover etal) and cannot do any Trucks 450 or bigger. Can do all F150, 250, 350 trucks however.
I did post on the Shelby GT 500 page that I have a dealer with a Torch Red /white stripes coupe Shelby GT 500 , but he is asking $10K over MSRP. Let me know if any interest.

Bony,

That is a 52" double sided Porcelin GULF sign that Chip is transporting for me back to Phoenix. I bought it from a guy in Madison, Oh. My brother runs the office for my company in Cleveland so he and my nephew went and got it, packaged it and delivered it to Carl at Trailex who placed it ion Chips trailer. I'll be in Phoenix tuesday eve through friday afternoon and hopefully will get together with Chip to recieve it. Damn nice of him to transport it for me. I've met the nicest bunch of people on this forum.

Not a problem AJB. I thought this was the case. Might take you up on a 350 though. I'll send a PM. I've found a couple of dealers who will do a gt500 for sticker. Thats the best I've seen so far. A couple for 4 to 5k over sticker...

Back in Arizona!!

About once a year, to quote John Belushi in the movie Animal House, I find myself saying, "you know what this means?..... ROAD TRIP!!!!" Last year at this time I got a call from my old "Firebirds Aerobatic Team" flight leader and aerobatic coach Rory Moore telling me that after a 10 year layoff from flying anything, he had decided to start competing in aerobatics again and had purchased a Pitts Special that belonged to the head honcho at General Dynamics. Great I say, where's the airplane? It's in Allentown, Pennsylvania and I want you to go with me to get it. Middle of winter with nothing but lousy weather. Clear across the country in a fabric covered bi-plane with no heater and no navigation gear. A very tricky tail dragger to land, especially on icy runways, and Rory hasn't flown one of these in 13 years. Have it shipped? NO WAY!!! We're going to go get it! We can do this! Call the office, I'll be gone for a few days. And what an adventure. The top photo below of Rory and I after we had been forced down by bad weather and Albuquerque, New Mexico, says it all. Every plane I have had built , and car purchased out-of-state (several) I have gone out and taken delivery of personally. So having this trailer shipped was out of the question. Another great adventure was the result.

As I feared, when I got back to Pittsburgh, the rental car agency informed me that in place of the Ford Explorer that I had reserved, I was getting a Suzuki Vitara. I had Trailex's hitch company prepared to mount a hitch on a Ford Explorer and finding a hitch for a Suzuki during the holiday weekend would have been impossible. I've visited every rental car company at the Pittsburgh airport searching for a company that had a Ford Explorer that I could rent one way to Phoenix. No dice. Just as I was about to give up a representative from Avis informed me that a gentleman was turning a 2008 Ford Expedition in early and asked if that would do. That was miraculous as all Expedition's have a trailer hitch and wiring installed as standard equipment. All I needed to buy was the receiver and ball and I was good to go. I drove from Pittsburgh to Canfield, Ohio where I met Carl and got my trailer hooked up. A great dinner at a local Italian restaurant and afterword Carl served me some weird lemon liquor shooters at his home till we were goofy. I took off at six in the morning on frozen roads with a box of hot Krispy Kreme donuts and strong black coffee. Jackson Browne was serenading me with "Let me introduce you to my redneck friend" as I blasted out of Canfield headed for a rendezvous at Frank's house near St. Louis. Before the Gateway Arch came into view I had received calls from several Forum members asking me where I was and how things were going (that was cool!) and I had probed the farthest reaches of my iPod . Listening to music that I had forgotten existed. After cold beverages and a most pleasant visit with Frank's gracious wife (I wanted to steal one of his Chihuahuas) I had dinner at a local restaurant and watched Kansas lose their shot at the national title. The next day I needed to make it to Amarillo. I hooked up with Steve for lunch about halfway there but other than that I kept the whip to my rental Expedition all day. The 2008 Expedition by the way, is amazing. Great sound system, tons of power, and most comfortable. I'm giving my 2006 Expedition to Charley next year and will be ordering a new one. Today I drove from Amarillo all the way to Charley's high school in time to pick him up from his wrestling practice at 5 p.m.

I love road trips like this. The trailer is fantastic, and so were all the people that I met, visited with, or conversed with on the phone during the trip. I saw parts of the country that I've never seen before. It was a great time. Would I do it again? In a heartbeat!!

Chip

Chip-

Congrats. I'm glad the trailer worked out for you. Carl took me to the same Italian restaurant when I picked up mine. Didn't do any lemon shooters though...

Sure pulls great doesn't it!

Chip,
Sounds like you had a great trip.
It's the GT of trailers.
