'Thinking about replacing wifey's 335i with wunna those new E 550 coupes (we need more room between the front & rear seats to be able to accomodate BOTH grandkid's car seats...and not hafta slide the FRONT seats - and us - into the dashboard to accomplish that).

'Anybody here own one?

'Thoughts? 'Impressions? 'Problems? 'Issues? 'REGRETS?????:shrug

Thanks-------

Don't know about the E550, but I have a 750Li and it has plenty of space front and rear for kids seats! Of course as Sam has said, the depreciation hit on these is BAD! I think a E550 will also depreciate rather quickly.

A SHO would be better on the front and back end of ownership.

I presume this one will actually be driven so an extra set of jack stands are not needed.

We wanna get away from BMW's this time, as we're FORCED to drive our Bimmer all the way to Bellevue to get it's oil changed at the DEALER - OR VOID THE WARRANTY! What a crock. I'm t-i-r-e-d of that kinda idiocy. Any MORON can change oil...and that would include ME!

There's a Benz dealer right here in town, so there will never be an issue where ANY of that stuff is concerned.

I agree about the SHO!!!!! But, it's a 4dr only...and 4 doors are for OLD people...

(Shuddup...)

4 doors are for practical people. Much easier to get the kids in and out. Lifting little ones can cause back injuries to the aged. You could go for a minivan! :)

The BMW dealer being so far away makes sense not to buy one again. The "free" maintanance is built into the pricing and if it is a pain to use it then why pay for it.

Does the MKS have the same engine options as the SHO?

This is maybe more fitting for EP to drive,

Well my suggestion is a two door and it also comes in blue. Being electric, it is green and both the operating and maintenance costs are low. Just think about all of those speeding tickets this car will never get, since the top end is only 7 MPH.

I'm really surprised nobody will "fess up" to owning a 550!

That's not good. It means either no one HAS one - or they're ashamed to admit it!

Either way - 'NOT a very good endorsement...!:willy:willy:willy

yeah the mks has the same engine/driveline as the Taurus.. so Torrie could tune it for you no issues.

well... Larry I guess you could buy a clk black series and just bolt the car seats in the back. :wink

or why not just go all the way and buy a 535ix WAGON .... actually if I could get a m5 estate I would own one in a heart beat ... but I'm weird like that. :lol

While a dealer may have told you this, it is not true. You can get your oil changes and maintenance done wherever you like - as long as you comply with specifications for the fluids.

I WAS told that, AND ALSO that maintenance had to be done at a "factory authorized" facility or that would ALSO void the warranty. So I never bothered to verify (or doubt) EITHER statement figuring they ought to know.

'Looks like I now have an additional reason to "pass" on getting another one.

Thanks for the info, Kendall. :thumbsup :cheers

(Edit: Regarding oil changes - I was told it had to be at the dealer OR an 'authorized facility. 'Just wanted to clarify. )

First off Pockets, if you get rid of the over-priced, over-hyped Beemer, I will pay for your first tank fill up.

Second of all, I walked away from Mercedes after Chrysler merged with them. But last year, I bought an S550 and absolutely love the car. It is rare that I don't find at least one thing wrong with the car, but this one I really enjoy.

Thirdly, as far as a depreciation hit goes, find yourself a very low mileage car and enjoy the hell out of it. I got my 550 with 4000 miles, less than a year old for about 50% of the price of a new one.

Worth mentioning: I really never understood brand loyalty. There are many here on the forum that are blind to any product outside Ford - no disrespect to anyone intended. Take the F250 Diesel for an example. Ford in my opinion has struggled with its Diesel engines and while I think the F250 is esthetically far superior to the Silverado 2500, GM's Diesel engine (made by Isuzu) is a far superior work truck.

(1) Wifey picks out/has the final say on her own cars, Sam! She hadn't even thought about a Bimmer 'til she happened to SEE (and then sat in/drove) the TT 335i...then it was all over! 'Only involvement I had in the deal was writing the check!:willy

(BTW - I'm gunna e-mail ya my address, AND I EXPECT TO RECEIVE that check!!! :rofl) (Hmmmmmm! I wonder if AUXILLARY 'tanks are an option on 550's...or whatever she ends up with? :rofl:rofl)

(2) 'Nothing at all wrong with brand loyality IMO, but, I haven't been afflicted with that particular mindset for a number of years now. I buy whatever pushes my buttons. I PREFER to buy American ('always HAVE) because of all that entails. But, "full disclosure", ever since the American car mfgs THEMSELVES started farming this & that out to foreign countries, I've more or less developed a "what's the diff" attitude where cars are concerned.

As an aside; because we're back to car shopping" now, ONCE AGAIN I find myself wishing Ford had built that "Forty-Nine" concept!!!!!!!!! DANG, I LIKED THAT CAR!!! WIFEY DID TOO!!!:banana:banana:banana
