Welcome neighbor! You should have moved to the west coast. Local guy did mine. Turned out great. I don't know about long term, but it still looks like new after eight months. Prep is key. He spent two days on his knees sanding the floor. I guess a new slab would be a lot less work. http://www.gulfcoastgaragefloors.com/Pages/default.aspx There's a pic of my garage in the gallery...red stripe on the wall.

We have 2 garages, the detached working garage has U-Coat epoxy which is still holding up great after 10 years, condensation is only issue. Wanted something different in the attached garage so we went with 24" x 24" commercial carpet tiles. Cost was $.50/ft vs ~$1.00/ft for the epoxy. Day and 1/2 installation for 1600 sq. ft with pressure sensitive cement, can easily pull up a tile and replace with another if needed.
Holding up well after 3 years, would do it again.
Lot of companies sell it, this is who I used: http://www.carpet-usa.com/ctile2.php

Best, Bret.

We're in the process of renovating a barn and building an equipment garage at our farm in Wellington, FL. We've installed a Premier Garage floor (www.premiergarage.com) in part of the barn and in the garage. This product was recommended to me four years ago by Chip Beck (GT Forum member) who has it in his garage. Since then I’ve installed it in garages at a summer home in Maine and our house in Massachusetts. I still looks new in both locations and doesn’t have a stain or chip anywhere. I really like this floor. PM me if you’d like the name of the local Florida franchisee/installer that we used. Cheers, Rob

Don't rule out Race Deck until you investigate it (numerous posts can be found in this Forum's SEARCH, and on the internet). Generous discount is offered to Forum members, I believe. I did my garage in New Jersey. Very satisfied.

Gentlemen,

My www.premiergarage.com floor is now 8 years old and it still looks brand new. It's not paint or epoxy, it's non slip, it's diamond hard and won't scratch, and solvents, gas, and oil don't hurt it a bit. Expensive but the best.

I have premier , like a Chip in one garage, and then tried the DIY epoxy coat. Premier is much better because prep is the key and I have no patience. EC is good but if I had to do it over, and may still there is nothing like Premier.

Epoxy doesn't wear well long term. Even the best product and prefect application and acid cleaning will chip and start looking bad. Composite floors, premier floors etc...all better than epoxy. Best floor for me is a glazed and polished concrete, or porcelain ceramic.

Yeah, in the long term we don't wear well either...we're all dead. :) DBK's Garage Mahal certainly makes a strong case for polished concrete, although I think that really comes into its own with a very large garage like he has.

Back to the OP's question, Florida humidity isn't a factor. But if I was building a new house, my inclination would be to go top of the line if I could afford it. After all, it's the most important room in the house.

Ok...I get that, but I think the epoxy floor will be outlived by me and I'm gonna bet by a factor of 5:1. I'm 56. I figure I have 30 summers left or so. The floor would need to be fixed every 5-6 years. LOL

I have the premiere garage system in my main garage, exactly like Chips, and I love it. However, around here everybody with a nice garage seems to have it. It's fun to try something unique, and there are so many options these days. See the following page for a couple of other ideas that I have been very happy with:

That is both rude and immodest.

Slippery when wet though...

I love my solid color light gray two-part epoxy floor. It shows EVERYTHING: drips, dropped fasteners, and dirt. Everything I own seems to drip sometime (except FGT). I felt that race-deck and tile systems had seams that would wick,etc...
Valspar used to sell an two-part (equal parts) but now it looks like they don't carry it any more.
It IS SLICK when wet so I added two stips of sand/grit for the wet rear tires (after a wash) to get on the lift in my garage.
BUT everywhere you add grip/traction you lose the easy clean up.

That is both rude and immodest.

I'm glad you finally appreciated two of my better qualities.

pacettr-that is a crazy good looking finish. The first picture looks like the contents of a Petri dish.
