New arrival

Hi - so a few weeks ago i had my first post, saying i was "in the market" after stalking it for months and deciding on what to get. Well no sooner did I make that claim and then found the car I wanted (a white 4 option '06, one owner, relatively low miles).

The car was in IL and owned by a gentleman car collector who had a pretty interesting collection of other cars. Everything worked out with the inspection, but because of the auctions down in AZ at the same time, I'd have to wait a few weeks for it to be picked up. That's when I thought "hey, the GT Guys (Rich) arent too far from the car (300 miles)... maybe i'll use the wait time to get them to take care of it...".

So that's what I did, Rich picked up the car and now I am so happy to have some GT experts going over the car for some maintenance:
- changed all the fluids, gave everything the once over. It's a 2300 mile car
- installed the Heffner 700 kit (which the original owner had bought but could never get calendars to align to get it installed - he wanted the GT Guys to install it, irony!)
- installed a short shift kit
- installed an ipod cable
- replaced the battery (just because - I usually have bad luck with batteries when I buy gently used cars, and that thread on failing tachometers is making me paranoid for no reason)
- and... (drumroll please....) did the bumper delete, stock muffler but Rich had the modified tips installed to give it that flush finish.

The car was picked up last Friday by the transport company (Intercity), so now I wait and the wait is killing me!!

Hopefully I'll have it next week, but there are some winter storms rolling through the mid-west and have already caused a delay. To top it off, now it looks like the car will get here just as a storm system is rolling in for a few days of rain....argh!... but i'll be happy to just look at it in the garage, maybe...

Thanks again to the forum for all the research and tips. You can learn a lot if you take the time to read past posts. Also thanks to the GT Guys and a few other sponsors from whom i already have (e.g. Exoticare for hot buttons and the key fob), or will be buying (Kip) some more goodies in the future.

I'll post pics once it is here.

Welcome to the club!

If you did the bumper delete check out the exhaust offered by Shadowman! I put it on my FGT and it completes the look with the bumper delete. The sound is fantastic too! Gives it the real V8 roar!

Enjoy!

Thanks

Thanks for all the comments.

Took delivery this morning. It was pouring rain so my only short drive was around the block so i could approach the driveway the right way to get the car into the garage.

Some pics attached, the last one is from one of the security cams - i think i'll save that video for a long time.

I received my hot buttons the day before, so my kids and I installed them, along with the lloyd mats while we tested out the mcintosh w/ ipod connection. Waiting for the weekend and better weather for a wash, then off to have the clear film done next week I hope.

Exciting to see the delivery. I am trying to figure what part of the Bay Area you live. There are a number of members in the Bay area, and not so far up the road in the Sacramento area. Perhaps as the weather gets nicer we can all meet up. Friday I took delivery of my Raptor truck, so I am actually enjoying this wet weather.

Very excited for you! Nice looking E39 M5 you have there, too. I'm just in the process of selling my 2002 M5 with 24K miles on it. Has Dinan exhaust as well like the one in the picture. Had it over four years, but it was turning into a garage queen, and I wanted to sell it to someone who will enjoy it. They are fantastic cars, despite what Howard may say. Supposed to deliver mine this week. Thinking of replacing with 2011 GT500 to console myself.

Congrats on the delivery Teej.

And hold on to your Dinan S2 M5. Everyone eventually misses the e39 M5. I sold mine to get the GT and just saw it last week at my buddy's hangar.

Nice car! No worries in me selling the M5. It's my second one. I had a bad accident in the first one and I walked away without even a scratch, so I went out and bought another one, same color even. Plus how do you replace that instant acceleration of the M5 in a sedan that doesn't look like it was made for the asian market??

It definitely felt like a tank.

BTW, I've got a Dinan S2 also. But it doesn't have blinding straightline acceleration. Still fun though.

Welcome to the elite group of FGT/E39 owners! You have impeccable taste...:cheers

I'm on my 3rd E39, this one is sterling Grey/Caramel with a European Rotrex twin blower setup. Best performance sedan ever, IMO!
