I went through 4 sets of GY rears in 9K miles. One of those got munched at a track day, but the others just seemed to evaporate. I don't do burnouts or drive that aggressively on the street.

I'm now on my 5th set of rears and 2nd set of fronts, but this time I went with Bridgestones. So far I have about 4K miles on them (including the VIR Rally), they have ~30% tread left.

I'm really impressed by those that get 10K+ miles on a set of GYs, I don't know how they do it. Maybe there are differences in the roads we frequent or maybe my foot is heavier than I think.:lol

I don't think your experience with 3K miles is out of family.

I got my car out of Tx with just over 4,000 miles on the OEM's, they were down to the wear bars. I can't say how it was driven prior to my ownership, but on the Bridgestones that I replaced them with, I have over 4,000 miles on them, and I'd say they're at about 50%.

You might try and call onlinetires.com (1.877.465.8473), if you are near Cerritos. When I have ordered from them I've seen a "pick up" option.

I run 28-29 psig for general travel, not the 32 recommended by Ford and Goodyear. The 32 psig tends to wear the tire centers more, and leaves quite a bit of tread remaining on the inner and outer thirds the tires. Mark M. once told me the 32 was to get even wear when tracking. For most highway travel at speed limits, only the centers of the tires will wear down. Dropping your pressures will put more tire width on the road surface (and less length), resulting in more even wear across the tire.

Here's my "gal" with the Bridgestones wrapped around DYMAGS and the car dropped with Alex's T/A lowering perches.

Thanks. I do love them, and I'm VERY happy with them. Unfortunately, Dymag is out of business. The wheels are considered to be hideously expensive (although I found them to be similarly priced to other high end wheels) and it's tough for the purchaser, if they're not a race team trying to minimize every last lb of weight, to justify the cost a lot of times. I got them from the Canadian distributor in Calgary, and I was able to justify the price on the basis that they weren't really any more than custom BBS or HRE wheels sized to fit. Plus I thought they looked really wicked cool, and the carbon fibre hoops are just extra badass hotness.

I want to go with 19" front and 20" rear wheels/tires. Heres what I'm thinking. This should work right?

Michelin Pilot Super Sport

255/35/19 - overall diameter 26" (stock GY are 26.3") revs per mile 799 (stock is 793)

315/35/20 - overall diameter 28.7" (stock GY are 28.9") revs per mile 726 (stock is 722)

Any advise on wheel widths and offsets?

Thanks

I got 6,000 miles each on my two sets of rear Goodyears. That included 3-4 track days on each set.
The Bridgestones have 2 track days and 5,000 miles and I think there's 2,000-3,000 left on them depending on days at the track.
I much prefere the Bridgestones on the street and track.
I've also lowered my rear pressures for street driving down to 28 PSI. Want to get more wear on the outer treads.
Decided to get some Hoosiers this year to save the street tires, and get some better track action.

Just ordered a set of the Bridgestones from Discount Tire. They are local to me so that's who I went with. The front 255 40 R18 were 267 ($30 cheaper then tire rack). The rear 345 35 R19 were not in their system. I showed him the Tire Rack printout and he called them and got a part number, then verified with Bridgestone. Matched the Tire Rack price of 379. Install, fees, and 8.75 tax totaled out to $1,489.23. Note that when he first called Bridgestone the lady had no information on this size. Second person he called found them with the help of the part number from Tire Rack. I have these similar tires as OEM on another car. They grip well and have worked awesome in the rain (80 mph in rain so heavy I didn't bother with wipers). I do find that they tend to follow grooves in the road, and they are noisy, but only on noisy roads and Goodyears were even worse on that section of road. I'll post again after I have impressions on the GT.

You will be very pleased with the improvement from the OEM Goodyears on the street......even moreso if you take them on the track.

The date of manufacture is usually on the inside wall - it is a FOUR digit number: the first 2 digits are the week of the year (01 to 52) and the last 2 digits are the year of manufacture (06 = 2006).

Thus a tire with a date code of 2708 was made in the 27th week (probably 1st week of July) in 2008.

I think I got this here.

Those are so much wider they almost make the rears look like fronts. Need to order a set.

And they fill out the fenders beautifully.
