There was a guy who had a set of these a couple weeks ago that posted some pics here. I asked him for some more pics of what he had done, and here they are. The rear wheel looks great, but I just can't get along with that front wheel having the "spinner" way outside the tire. It just looks wrong to me. Until someone can figure out how to solve that "funny look", I am out. The guy who did these did a great job on the workmanship, it's just limited by our car's specs.

More... He made some orange caps to use instead of the spinners. Would be better on the front, but would look stupid with spinner on the back and cap in the front. Caps all the way around kind of defeats the purpose.

This how it has to look in my opinion without looking "fakeydoo", and with our offsets it does not seem possible.

I know it's a bad photo, but it clearly shows the spinner sticking way too far out from the wheel for me. In the Ferrari world, it's called "fakeydoo". I apologize in advance for offending anyone, this is just my opinion.

I agree with Gulf GT.

The deep dish and the fact they were 15" is what makes the old Halibrand look so cool. I think Ford themselves must have looked at reproducing the look but were not convinced.

C'mon the rest of the car looks exactly like the '66 winner, why leave the wheels out?

The projecting spinners kind of give it that Roman Chariot look.....

I agree with all of these comments and would not even consider putting wheels on my car that looked like those posted by Gulf. The goal is to end up with a front wheel that has a GT40 appearance with an offset that looks good. It is easy to make a center-lock wheel for the rear because of the deep offset. The correct look for the fronts is an engineering challenge with the brake set-up, and the mfgrs realize the spinner cannot protrude beyond the front flange of the wheel. The spinner itself has a depth of about 2 1/2 inches. Some may prefer the center-lock nut which is what current racers use. It doesn't protrude as far, but it also doesnt have the 60's look. Until we see the actual wheel with spinner on the GT, it's speculation. IMO, if it can't be done right, it's not woth doing; however, the fronts will never look like they did on the originals. :cheers

Midnight Blu's (and Floridaho Chris') wheels even look better in person than in the pictures. :thumbsup It will take a very accurate center-lock to improve on these :cheers

These really do look great. I saw them at C&C. They painted the inside of the rim orange as well and that somehow gives it more depth. They look real good that way. Not sure I would have thought of that.

But, I would lower the car. That's what these are missing too me. A 3/4"-1" drop on front and 1/2"-3/4" rear would change the attitude of the car even more. Don't get me wrong it looks good without, but would look even better (more aggressive) with a little drop IMHO.

I personally keep in mind the fact that this is a "modern" car, not a "1960's" car, with all the technological advantages of a "modern" car. In reality, I really don't want my car to look just like a "1960's version" of the car. I add items and make changes to my car that are in the "spirit" and "pay tribute" to the 1960's car, but use "modern" technology to achieve that aim. In my opinion that is exactly what the stock wheels do. The guys that have taken those wheels and painted them have achieved that exact goal. It has a "spinner" that is an original Ford product that meets the design guidelines of being sized appropriately for the car with a "modern" flair to it. I am always looking at other options, but I have yet to be convinced that someone will be able to do it better when you consider all the factors involved. The stock wheels that came with our cars are pretty bitchin when painted up, and please show me a better looking stock wheel ever mounted on any car that looked better than this? We are damn lucky they look this good. I am beginning to believe that we have had the best wheels right in front of our noses all this time. At some point I will likely paint a set for my car too.

I know this belongs in the other tire thread, but, what tires are you running? Front and Back....

Hoosiers, P245/40ZR18, P315/40ZR19. I am in Southern California. I do not drive my car in the rain. It does not lose control when I drive through "puddles". It sticks so good I park it upside down in my garage.

Could the guys who have painted their stock wheels please post a photo, or direct me. I would like to see what others have done (Heritage variety). Thanks.

Thanks for responding. Do you have any sidewall shots of the wheels on the car? Also, is your car lowered?

Wally, are these similar to the tires you told me about? I do not anticipate driving my car in the rain or in puddles!!!

Unfortunately I don't. The car is at Muscle Motors in Canoga Park for another week getting the latest batch of upgrades.

Yes, but those have had some custom grooves cut in them. There was a post on this process. As I recall a race tire dealer up north will did the custom work.

They look aggressive on the car and reduce the ride height about 1/2" as I recall.
