The Ford GT Portfolio

I'm in Raleigh, NC this weekend for a large Mustang show and a gentleman who works for Ford Racing was there selling and autographing his book on the Mustang (sorry, can't remember his name). When I get up to the table, I see a book on the Ford GT and SVT. According to him, both these books were done in-house by Ford and never sold to the public. The FGT book was $50 and the SVT book was $25. I decided to grab these books instead of the Mustang book. I don't know how many copies he had. I meant to ask but was kind of rushed by the crowd behind me. He did also say that the Ford GT portfolios were handed out to the the new owners of the FGT cars. I was just curious if any of you who bought the cars new got one of these? Here are pictures of what I got. For now I have decided to keep the FGT portfolio in it's box unopened.

Yeah, the one I opened is on all SVT vehicles up to 2004. The other book is an FGT portfolio, but decided not to open the box it is in for now. He had a display copy at his booth I thumbed through real quick, but was limited in time as he had a line for autographs and I didn't have my camera to get a picture of the FGT portfolio. I'll probably open the one I bought when I get home, just want to keep it safe and sound until I get back.

Here's what's in that box.

Shelby,

You've seen it. Inside that box is the thin hardcover book that was supposed to be given to buyers of the 2005 Ford GT. The book was not printed for the 2006 model year. Many dealers kept them and did not give them away with the cars. It's a cool Ford GT item to have and they bring pretty solid money (about $150) on E-Bay. CH53 got a great deal and would have done well to buy every one that dealer had!

Yeah, I was kind of intrigued by what little I got out of him on this book. He said they were supposed to be given out to the FGT buyers, but then many dealers kept them and sold them for $150. I guess a box of them ended up in a Ford warehouse because according to him, he works for Ford Racing and when they were found in this warehouse he somehow got ahold of them and that is why we was selling them. He was only taking cash for these things and I only had enough money to get the two books I did. I wanted to know how many he actually had but didn't get the chance to ask. I'll check to see if he is there tomorrow at the awards ceremony. If he is, I'll see how many he still has and let him know about this forum in case he is still trying to sell them.

Does the SVT book have anything in it about the pre-production Ford GT ...since you indicated it is up to 2004 only models?

Look forward to your response :thumbsup

Hey Jay.
The last chapter of the SVT book is all about the GT. It's called Ford GT: SVT engineers a supercar. there are lots of photos and information about the development, concepts, interiors, etc. There are a few sketches of different interior ideas and photos of the clay model and Camilo's drawings. The chapter also has full-page side bars about Camilo, Chris Theodore, and J Mays.

It's a great book for all things SVT and really gives a good behind-the-scenes look at the development of all the SVT models over the years and a few models that slipped through the cracks (SHO wagon, SVT Thunderbird, 5.0 Ranger!, etc.). They shouldn't be too hard to find on Ebay or Amazon.

--The book also cites the HP rating for the GT at 500...I love how Ford upped the rating to 550 and STILL underrated the beast of an engine...
Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Jeff
