Gentlemen,

Long before we left for Le Mans this year, I dreamed of acquiring one very special piece of Ford GT history. I did not expect to pull it off, but I was certainly going to try. I wanted one of the sparkplugs out of a Matech Ford GT that was used in the car during the actual 24 Hours of Le Mans. I was jubilant when the team was kind enough to send me all 8 sparkplugs out of both Matech GT's (16 total), #60 & #61, each individually packaged with information on which car the plug came from and which cylinder it was firing during the race. In addition, the team carefully removed all 6 sponsor name badges, (one was inside the cockpit and two were on the outside of each car), and presented them to me as well. Each of them was labeled with the car it came off of and its position on the car.

One of the name badges and both of the #3 sparkplugs will remain with me until the day I die. All the rest will be presented to other Forum members for exceptionally meritus service to our fraternity.

I designed and had built 3 "Thanks of the Forum" awards that were presented at Rally V. In addition, three other individuals were honored with different awards. So for for the benefit of those members not in attendance, here's who they went to.

In addition to the three awards whose information is displayed and pictured below, Francesca Bannister received a special bracelet for her tireless and underappreciated efforts on behalf of all of us during the Rallies, Martin Bartek is being shipped a special award for accomplishing something thought impossible, taking the modern Ford GT back to Le Mans and bringing Ford GT owners worldwide into that amazing experience, and Steven Nesta is being shipped a similar award for the extraordinary hospitality he extended to our members attending the race, and making us feel like family.

The information printed on the 3 "Thanks of the Forum" awards handed out at the Rally and pictured below is self-explanatory. I hope the recipients enjoy them and the pieces of Ford GT Le Mans race history they contain.

All the best.

Chip

Chip.
What a great recognition to folks who have done so much for all of us that love these cars. Thanks to you as well for all your efforts to make this forum a great place to socialize, learn, and celebrate what great cars these are, and what a great group of owners and admirers they have.

Chip:

It was good to meet you and you did a great job as MC. My wife and I were lucky enough to be sitting with the Ray and Matech guys when you presented the awards and they seemed genuinely touched by recognition, and were great company during dinner. I am glad you posted this because I did not have a chance to read these Friday night.

I also appreciated my sponsor plaque which shall go in my car (forgot to ask you how to mount) And, we already have mounted in our rec room (along with many NASCAR wreck pieces, etc) our blue Camilo--damn, that thing is big. Terry

Thanks a ton for that Chip. Totally unnecessary but much appreciated. I will keep that proudly on my wall until I die.

Thanks again to all the forum sponsors who made the Le Mans effort possible.

Thank you for making this gift from "all of us" at the forum, when really, we know that it was YOUR tireless efforts and compassionate heart that made this occur. I'm glad you're our moderator. But I'm more glad that you're our friend. Thank you.

Before I get too excited, I want to make sure one of those really is for me?

I'm speechless, Chip. Thank you from the bottom of my heart - like Dave and Peak have written an automotive treasure for the ages.

Again, thank you so very much!

Joe,

I knew you were not coming to the Rally but you were the first person honored on the final night anyway. I relayed a story to our members in attendance that I will repeat here for everyone else. In addition to being the top contributor to our Matech sponsorship effort, Joe suggested that the Forum sponsor the entire team and offered to contribute $25,000 himself if enough other members could also come up with similarly large sums. Unfortunately, in this difficult economy most of us, including me, are not able to do that, and raising the millions of dollars necessary to run the team for an entire season is beyond the scope of the Ford GT Forum. But that Joe was willing to step up in such a manner speaks leagues about him. In addition to that, it tells me that his business is doing a lot better than mine is and he's a hell of a lot more successful than I am. :willy :ack :lol

In any event, thanks a ton Joe! I thought somebody would be at the Rally who lived close to you and would be willing to deliver it. I made a general announcement during the final night's banquet but apparently nobody in attendance resided close enough to get it to you. So I will carefully pack it in foam and ship it to you. I think these shadow boxes turned out really well and they look a lot better in person than they do in these photos. The dash plaques that Project 321 put together are equally spectacular. I'll send you a PM Joe to get information for shipping. All the best.

I saw your PM and replied there. But also wanted to just say thank you, again, here. I'm completely blown away and will treasure this forever!

One more pitch... Maybe we can't sponsor the whole car for a year... But how about the Ford GT Forum on the sides as we did for LeMans in 2010, FOR THE YEAR in 2011?? Being part of the Forum and Matech would be truly special.

Lemans 2011 is already in my calendar so lets get a date for Utah!

Chip,
This is truly a remarkable feat. I realize that you just set the bar to an awfully high expectation, and wonder if it could ever be topped.
Truly remarkable, and I bet greatly treasured by all the special recipients.
